Let me qualify that I live in So. Cal. so that may be a limitation in itself.
The best I could find was a 2013 with Premium with 38,000 miles on the clock. Purchased this mid 2018.
The Premium I purchased did have Parking Assist and DAC, headlight washer, 3 climate zones, etc. but not some of the features I was really looking for such as:
  • Multi-terrain
  • Crawl Control
  • Front radar
  • Front and right side cameras
So the long answer to your short question is: YES I plan on adding those features. Just not sure when.
First of all, for US spec GX, Multi-terrain is NOT offered. This will be a simple DYI option as you may have read here. The CC, Radar, front and right-side camera are part of Driver Support Package, which is a special order option. Thus, it its very limited available on the market, especially in used car market.

I voted yes for both, would an added benefit with adding a new drivers support module also add rear camera grid lines? That is something I have been looking for since I bought my 2011.

But, that said, I found that the most important item to have is a good set of winter tires (NOT all season, or all weather). Makes a difference of night and day in accelerating, braking and cornering.

But, because of the ease of installation, and somewhat reasonable price, I may just install the MTS module, which MAY come in handy one day.
I too am looking at wanting to add the MTS and Crawl Control to my Premium. I only have the DAC. The MTS and Crawl Control may be redundant since I have front and rear ARB lockers and re-geared.
I'm still looking through what all is involved in adding both those controls.

If you want to some off-road cruise control options the crawl can help with that even though you have lockers. It works going up or down the hill and downhill will brake in ways a human can't.

MTS is easy plug and play once you take enough of the dash out. Crawl is fairly simple on the hardware swap but you do need to use a laptop with Techstream to do the zero point.

MTS and Crawl modules won't get you rear grid lines. Some questions still remain on what it would take to make that work. Possibly other camera, head unit and definitely another ECU that runs around $600 or so. That one is used for the models with cameras in front and the sides. hzhao did a lot of research on these cameras.

I'll have to defer that OEM experiment to someone else. :-)

I plan to add MTS when/if the new display gets good enough to order. Camera lines can be added with a different camera, but they won't be active (move), and wont be calibrated to the size of the GX. My opinion is that the static non-calibrated lines aren't worth the trouble, but maybe that's cause I am excellent at parking

Is this oemvehicleparts.com on the up and up?

I ordered the needed parts from the links and got the parts in a used chocolate box. Is there a way to tell if the parts are real OEM parts. Has anyone else had issues with them?

Thanks for your time.

Never had any issues with them and Matt the owner is on the up and up. Do you have some pics of parts?

The part doesn’t come with a box from lexus so they just used any box that fit to ship. I don’t think anyone else makes this part except Toyota.

Default CRAWL vs. MTS...do we even need MTS??

I am super happy that our GX has CRAWL as an option. And in some other Toyotas, there is also MTS (multi-terrain select).

Some folks here have done mods to get MTS on GX. One of the nice thing about MTS mod is that you can use Mud/sand in 4HI. But i am not sure if just locking center diff will be just as good as MTS Mud/Sand mode in 4HI.

Anyway, here is Toyota’s explaining on when to use CRAWL (see attached). I am not sure if MTS is much needed given that CRAWL at different speeds do basically the same thing. Therefore, our GX is plenty good for all terrain with just center diff locking capability and CRAWL.

Actually Crawl doesn't change the ATRAC slip ratio. MTS will do that.

Here is a video from the MTS/Crawl Thread

Personally I like a swiss army knife of options even if I rarely use some of them.

Canadian GXs can get MTS from the factory.. in addition they also have option for the driver side camera.

I like the MTS and Crawl. The MTS has been most helpful for me when driving up rocky or mogul hills. It reduces wheel spin if you lift a tire over the factory atrac settings. I haven't used it in the sand or mud settings much so I can't comment on those settings.

EDIT: one thing I've noticed is that crawl is not useful in the low setting for me. Maybe it's because I have larger tires on. The car seems to just constantly hit the brakes every second or so when in the low speed setting, it's not smooth at all. The setting between low and med through high seem to work great though. Very smooth and controlled speeds.

In those rocks / hills, why not use CRAWL instead because it simulates locker the best (better than ATRAC)?

In those cases I'm usually going faster than crawl and I usually only use crawl for going down hill.

Crawl also will cancel if used continuously for more than 12 minutes.
