Looking to make the jump
Hello everyone,
I have been driving an F150 for the past 12 years but am currently in the market for an SUV. And while my Ford hasn't really had any issues, I am wanting to jump to the Toyota/Lexus world due to their remarkable reliability and resale value. I have narrowed my choices down to a new Sequoia or a GX Premium+ and am leaning towards the GX P+. This is due to the hybrid-only option in the Sequoia and the fact that from what I have read online, those who have the new Sequoia are reporting less than stellar gas mileage. If I have buy a hybrid, which in the Sequoia cuts into the cargo room, then I at least should be getting outstanding MPGs. Also, the GX has a V8 which my F150 has.
I am looking for any information on the vehicle itself and the buying process. Is there anything I should be wary of with the vehicle? Are there deals to be had with Lexus dealers? Or is it you pay what the sticker says? And anything else that you might want to add would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Even with batteries taking space, the GX460 is still smaller inside and gets worse gas mileage than the Sequoia. GX has full time 4WD unlike the Sequoia. Test drive them both. If GX isn't too small for you - then it could be a great option.
I got my 2023 about a month ago after a five month wait. It was sticker. They did offer me free driver/passenger window tinting or $500. I took the $500 and had the tinting done for $189 at the place they use. The only consolation to paying sticker was the outstanding price I got for my 2019 GX. I was in to pick up my plates this week and they a Luxury on the floor that someone decided they didn't like the color after it arrived. The dealer had a list of people waiting. I'm guessing still no discounts.
With the 2023 most likely being the last V8 generation a good deal would be sticker or slight discount.
When we picked the 2021(in sep 2021) it had almost 10% discount from msrp, think main reason was high inventory at dealer and that the 2022 model got a slightly upgraded interior with new infotainment system.
We took the discount and I added the BeatSonic CarPlay module and have been happy with the decision.
Pricing will always be based on local market as well.

I have been looking too while deciding between GX and another car. Good deals are hard to find…everyone I have talked to who bought one in last two months said they paid MSRP.
I am surprised it’s quite that high, but wasn’t expecting giant discount as those are uncommon for Japanese cars even before pandemic and their supply chains are still behind. Really depends on inventory locally.
American cars usually come with a lot of cash on the hood—got tons off when I bought my Cadillac in 2019. Right now for import SUVs you can wheel and deal on an X5 or and Audi. They just don’t meet my needs.

Nothing wrong with a GX other than MPG. But the idea that it is a large SUV is incorrect. The inside is small, especially in the back because of the third row in the floor.
I don’t think it will be anywhere near as reliable, but if I wanted a new bigger SUV I would look at the LX600 base model 5 seater (or preferably a used LX570/TLC/Sequoia V8). The LX600 does not have the hybrid of the sequoia, but does have the turbo V6 10 speed drivetrain.
if you are ok with a pick up, I do like my tacoma a lot.
