yes it can. there are hi output LEDs now that can run on the hid voltage, meaning no ballast wiring mods. Only thing is you need to add a rubber boot in place of the dust cap. i thought i did a writeup on this, maybe i didnt. i tried out 2 or 3 different bulbs and 2 different boots. works really well. better than both my ultinon bulbs and the oem bulbs. ill look for a thread here on this if not ill make a writeup
some good about this: less heat inside so less small cracking and less embrittlement. also less of certain radiation types so less damage to the inside.
ends up looking like this
Any info you can share to do this? Would be highly appreciated.
led lumens are a marketing gimmick. oem hids bulbs are brighter than any oem or aftermarket led bulbs. i think what you are seeing is short distance brightness and you are equating it to mean that it is overall brighter and better. i had this misconception too and was quickly brought back to earth when driving in the rain with aftermarket LED bulbs and they performed terribly. its because most if not all aftermarket leds cannot reproduce 100% of the visible light spectrum in which they measure with cri. good luck and i am glad you enjoy your lights but you are wrong on this.
sorry buddy you are so wrong about this
I have a GS a few years back and my hid in my fog were burnt out so I got led GT for about $100/200 a pair I forgot And I only install one side because something happened so I drove my car with one HID and one LED
. LEDs looks so much brighter and the HID were oem takeoffs From a rear crash same year
There is some truth about CRI and LED bulbs but only under specific conditions for example heavy fog or snow. In those situations the warmer the visible light the better, cooler spectrum interacts with the water molecules in a way that makes visibility worse. But that's what fog lights are for. The vast majority of driving you're much better off with the brightness of a good LED bulb, and no HIDs are not brighter they max out at about 3200 lumens.
i couldnt find the write up on that conversion hid to led. but i will add some here until i have more time for a better explanation
parts are hose clamp, electrical conduit nut, pvc compression fitting and a boot. boot was from amazon and rest from hardware store.
cut a circle in the oem dust cover just smaller than the threads for the compression fitting, then thread in the compression fitting into the hole you cut. the pvc will cut threads into the dust cover. its better to start out with a smaller hole and try, then enlarge the hole if needed.
can also add some rtv once its assembled just to add a seal. the conduit nut fits over the threads to lock it all into place
cut the boot height to fit the aftermarket led, take into account that there needs to be a bit of extra room to not bind up the bulb and affect the light motors if you have them.
cut notches for the boot to fit over the dust cover ribs.
boot fits over compression fitting, other compression part not used
pretty sure the bulbs in the image are what i kept. i test oem and aftermarket bulbs and those at the time were the best overall.
no sealant needed on boot because the clamp seals that joint
lumens can be useful but often gets exaggerated anyways. lux is what counts which will take into account the housing, bulb focal point, etc.
lumens is the output, lux is the end result
if you rotate certain bulbs, or others have in and out adjustability as well, you can get differing light out of the housing/system while the lumens remains the same.
go to VLED they got you covered on all thing that you need to make this installed cleaner and easy!!
please share.
i did look and all i found there was one option. that option used a bipin xlr type x connector (id recommend against). and the power required special wiring.
also required drilling out the dust cover.

I didn’t read that part that you recommended against whatever they’re doing…
