Default Using the S +- for Gear Selection

Just curious who uses the S +- instead of D for driving? I can see a situation where you have a long down hill grade and use the sequential gear selector to go down to 5'th or 4'th to save the brakes, but in the long run, does this put more wear and tear on the transmission vs replacing the brakes sooner?

I use it for low speed or downhill engine braking. Especially going from 65/70 to 55 and from 45 to 30 which happens a lot around here.

Same here, used a lot during long down hills situation. Normal driving has been in D.

Pretty much like the others have said, and also for uphill situations. I hate it when the GX gear hunts because of a steep uphill mountain drive so I'll pop it into S and leave it in 3rd or 4th as the situation requires.

Mostly use the gear selection when there is snow/ice on the roads. Also, when going downhill and don't want to over heat the brakes.

This isn't a sportscar, if I want it a bit "sharper" for city driving, I'll pull the shifter into "S" and let the trans handle the gear selection, but regular driving just "D".

If I lived somewhere there were hills, I'd use it for engine braking. I would not be worried about this wearing out the transmission, it's built to do this.

Towing, steep hills and steep off-road situations in 4Lo, I do use it. Other than that I have never had the need. In my opinion, the shift logic in the transmission is pretty good.
