The new 2017 GX captain seat option brought up an idea to have my 2nd row bench swapped to captain seats in my 2015 GX. Has anyone done this and have any ideas? I called the dealer and they advised captain seats from them would be about $4,000 per seat so I'd be better off buying a 2017 in that case. Any feedback much appreciated!

Or searching for a wrecked one for parts, much cheaper that way.

^^^ That could be a while though. Also it seems the sliding base is different with captain chairs. How does this change a swap out, floor brackets, carpet holes etc...

Would be cheaper to trade your 2015 in on a 2017.

And like tecman said, will save you from a myriad of other problems like carpet, floor mountings, heated seat wiring, etc.

I personally don't care for the captain chairs in the back... it isn't supposed to be a minivan.

Back seat,Capt chair console?
Our new GX has the capt chairs in the back seat. does anyone have an idea for some sort of console to fill the gap between the seats?

I think ordering your GX with the captains chairs was to keep that space open for traveling into the 3rd row easier. You may have been better off with the 2nd row bench. I would love to have the captains chairs in my 2011.

WE didn't special oder it. If you get the luxury edition, it only comes with capt chairs. You can't get the bench seat. We would have opted for the bench. But, you are probably right about the access being easier. However the premium model also has the rear seats, and a bench seat. We won't use the third row much.

That's been my dilemma as well. I want a 2017 luxury but would prefer the bench seat. Problem is they force you to get captains chairs. Even the majority of premiums I've seen have captains chairs. I too wish they had a console in between as an option. I've been looking to see if I can get something before I pull the trigger.

The arm rests in the middle of the capt chairs will be a problem. I think they will get in the way of a console. but I'm trying to find something for that space. If you come up with something, please share it.

This is one of the reasons I special ordered a basic Gx-for the bench seat and also because I preferred the espresso trim over the mahogany and I couldn't get it in the premium or the luxury.

Yea, I also found myself specifically going downgrade to get the bench seat instead.

Also, is it just me, or does something look really "cheap" about the way it looks with the Captains Chairs? Like it's missing something or the seats are just add ons.

We looked at the Infiniti QX also, and it had Captains Chairs but they seemed really high grade looking.

^^^ I thought the same thing. When I heard there were going to be captain chairs I was expecting plush luxury. I looked at and older QX before I bought my GX and they are plush luxury.

I agree, it looks like something is missing there. I do find them comfy, though I have not ridden in them for more than a short drive.

One option you may want to look into, I'm sure just about any upholstery shop could make something that goes in between there to fill the gap. Maybe even make a small console with a lid. They would just measure the shape and match the leather up.

Depending on the shop, I could see them doing it for under $300, about Lexus would charge if they offered something.

We went with bench in our 2017. The implementation of the captains chairs is terrible. Take a look at how Acura did it in the MDX. That's how to do it right. Totally agree it's cheap looking. You can find them on the lots that way but they are rare. I was dead set on captains chairs.... Until I saw them.
