Default Intermittent tilt steering not working

Been having an intermittent failure of my tilt mechanism on the steering column. When starting the car sometimes it will return to the memory setting for driver 1 or 2 but other times it will not telescope all the way to the right position and tilt will either move a little or not at all. You can drive and bump the switch up or down and hear the click of the switch but no movement. Then later in the drive try again and it will move. I am thinking it is not the motor since the telescoping part does work all the time but does not take wheel to the right position at start up even when tilt does not work. Is there a circuit board which stores the memory setting so it knows the wheel position to move the wheel to when that drive gets in to drive? Maybe it is the motor but that doesn't explain the tilt not going to the right position. Any Thoughts and Thanks for any input.

Not exactly the same characteristic you are experiencing. For the past 6 months or so I have noticed several times that when I shut the truck down the column doesn't move.

Only other thing I recall here was this,

These motor are notorious for going out. I disable the auto retract in Techstream. I have not plugged it in to the GX but on the SC it's an option to turn off.

In general, but usually it takes a while.

If it isn't the motor/gear itself here is a troubleshoot grid from FSM. I need to see if OBD Fusion/Link pulls this ECU for codes. It might... you could diagnose with TS as well.

It's quite common on the SC430 and the LS430. I'm sure on other models as well. Now these cars are obviously older but depending on the vehicle not necessarily more mileage. I think they wear out based on usage. It's a nice feature I agree. Often what owners do is when they start noticing issues they disable the feature. Personally, I prefer to disable early and not deal with a failure later.

If you don't have TS... OBD Fusion/Link can see the ECU and while it does find these PIDs they may not all be available.

A number of repair videos on Youtube about a gear that can be replaced.

PN for just the motor appears to be 4581060041 or 4581060040 ...it kinda looks like you would have to purchase from overseas as domestically they want to sell you the entire column. This was just some quick parts searches

Default Tilt wheel ecu module

Has anyone experienced a problem with the tilt wheel function going intermittent as a result of a bad tilt/telescopic command module or ecu?
Have replaced the motor which I hoped would solve but it did not. Don't want to replace anymore than necessary but do want it to work properly.

Thank you
