Adding current situation, it could be even longer. The Enterprise Agent contracted with Lexus has been very proactive and nice. The guy contacted me and asked about rental experiences, also offered me to another car due to the one I had will be due for oil change soon. Now, I am in a new loaded 2020 Mazda CX-5.
the nice thing about it is you can try various cars while on rental. Have you had to contact Lexus directly for this or go through dealer? I’ve called a dealer, but they said they don’t provide rental cars and have to wait.

Yes. Rental is setup between Enterprise and Lexus Dealer. I don’t understand why your dealer told you that they don’t provide rental. This is clearly stated by Lexus corp. Especially this recall is due to low pressure fuel pump and it is deemed not safe to drive until remedy has applied. If your dealer refuse to provide the rental while you are waiting, you should call the Lexus Customer Relation about it.

Default 2014 GX460 Fuel Pump recall - Road trip or wait?

I got an interim notice from the NHTSA for recall Notice # 20V-12 that points to an issue with the fuel pump that could cause the GX460 to stall while driving which makes it dangerous. Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm planning to do a long road trip with my family from Seattle to Yellowstone sometime in July and wondering if its safe to do so or not. Since this is an interim recall, the official recall is not in place yet to fix the problem and no ETA when this will happen. I'm considering just renting a car to do the road trip based on the risk involved. thoughts?

thanks!

You can contact Lexus and they will arrange a rental from Enterprise for this recall. No ETA for my recall when the parts will be available, currently on the 120 days rental provided by Lexus.

I have not heard, nor experienced stall while driving. But I agree that if the potential has resulted recall, then I will take every precaution with available resources.

Personally I would not worry about it. I have yet to hear of one person experiencing a stall. I did read it is recommended that you don't run the tank too low on fuel. Best no to do this anyway. Last time i visited the dealer I heard they would start late June or July.

So Lexus pays for a free rental car until the vehicle is repaired? Is so, I just need to call my dealer or Lexus directly?

thanks

Yep. Start with the dealer.

Look at the info under the red bar on page 5.

If you're getting a rental for 120 days, I'd call the insurance and take it off the policy too sine you'd not be driving it at all until it's fixed. Save some $$ for mods

Be very careful with that. In most jurisdictions, if a car is registered then it needs to be insured and it is unlikely that the dealership will accept a car that isn't registered/insured.

not really a good idea at all. For most of states, it requires the register owner to carry the insurance for the car. Not mention if anyone here still carry the car loan or under lease. Beside, depends on your driving records and other bundled property insurance such as house, not sure there is enough saving to justify other impacts. Just my two cents.

Just the fact you are asking this question says that this concern is hanging over your head ... and will be there the entire trip. No one knows the probability of failure for your vehicle, so why take the risk ... so better to secure another vehicle and relax and enjoy the road trip ... the whole point of going in the first place.

Beyond that, how many Lexus dealerships are along your travel route ... not many to where a xxx mile tow would ruin anyone's day let alone a family trip.
