I compared the sound in both the standard and ML systems before I bought mine and there was a huge difference. The base system was flat and the sound had no depth. (Yes, I did adjust the sound settings for each input). I actually was surprised because on my 2004 GX, I had the base sound system and it sounded very good. I had many complements on the sound of that system. Lexus changed something up on the newer models to cause a huge difference between the standard and ML systems, basically the standard systems have been cheapened up.

that changes model to model. for example, the standard stereo in the new gs is actually pretty good. of course the ML is incredible...point is....some cars have pretty decent standard radios. IS's also have good standard sound systems.

The GX460 standard sound system is really not one of the best of the standard systems. and nowhere near the Levinson. that being said, I'm sure most people that aren't into great sound quality are perfectly happy with the standard GX460 radio. I'm not one of those people.

Thanks for the tip. I too am very picky and want a very good sound system. I have one at home so why would I not want one in my car? And very true about to each his own with sound systems, everyone's ears are different and can perceive sounds differently and with different intensity. What sounds good to one person can sound horrible to another.

I would also recommend turning surround sound off with ML. some cars the surround sound is really ok left on. Some cars, it sounds so so so much better with surround sound turned off. GX460 in particular i think is ok either way

Anyone know if you can get Mark Levi on Premium in Texas? Lexus only show Mark Levi as an option on Luxury.

For 2014 the ML is available ONLY on the Luxury model, regardless of location, period.

lexus.com configurator is 'challenging'.

it shows 3 packages for 2015 gx. the top package with the safety tech doesn't include mark levinson and it's not available separately.

so if i wanted a gx with safety tech, mark levinson, and not rear seat entertainment, is that possible?
