Check for updates and you will see one for the Vline and one for the firmware. I'd update the vline first and depends on which firmware version you have, if it's too old then maybe update, but if it's fairly recent, I'd hold off a bit. There's a Facebook group for Vline owners as well if you have issues https://www.facebook.com/groups/696386090967018

Awesome, thank you! A reason to reinstall Facebook, I suppose
I know this is an older thread, but I was in that boat and actually went with a 2021 4Runner Nightshade partly because of this omission. I am not a spring chicken. but I also use Apple CarPlay daily since I use my vehicle for work. It is very convenient, making and setting appointment through the head unit, etc. I also didn't want to void the warranty, in fact I extended my 4Runner warranty to 125k miles, so that was a factor for me too. I drive a lot of miles. That being said, I am loving the 4Runner, and may get another one when this one goes to my wife. She fell in love with it too and is pushing to buy it from the company. lol

Numerous options in this thread you could use on your '21.
As for any '22 retrofit....
IMO…it will years out by someone with significant time, money and research devoted to mod…more than likely leveraging used parts from a wrecked 2022 or 2023 model…before the first write up is announced. This is not a plug and play swap.

Fun fact, my GROM unit appears to of kicked the bucket tonight. It no longer works, like at all. I’ll troubleshoot it more but I have a suspicion it’s likely toast. If that’s the case I’ll be really unhappy.
We use the Beatsonic unit for Apple CarPlay, so far its been smooth, knock on wood.
When comparing all options out there, it seems like most sellers are using same hardware, but have their own derived software specific for what they sell.
We wanted a unit that was only with CapPlay, not android system with other features to keep it simple

I'm considering the Beatsonic Carplay unit for my wife's vehicle, any special things you need to do for it to work properly, or does it integrate pretty seamlessly? Any strange issues that have come up during your use?
I had previously installed the GROM VL2, but it quickly came back out and was sent back, it was never going to work for what I needed, simple, easy to use carplay.

It is straight forward if you are handy.
I removed the 12VDC/cigarette lighter outlet and replaced it wit a dual USB outlet at the same time, 1 port for Apple CarPlay and the other I added a 3A 12vdc to 5vdc using the original 12vdc supply.
