Default Steep Incline and Oil

Going up an incline, is our 4.6 V8 engine at risk of losing oil pressure because all the oil flows to the back of the pan and away from the pump? In other words, is our oil pan designed in such a way to accommodate going up steep incline?

Tacoma seems to be having this issue with its 3.5 V6: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cptU...ature=youtu.be

According to the technical data sheet the max approach / departure angles are 21 / 23 deg. The truck is designed to handle these angles.

I don't see anything on the video that indicates oil pressure drop.

Are you sure 21 deg? That's the approach angle of the vehicle (due to low bumpers). Just want to be sure we're talking about same thing.

According to this: https://www.toyota.co.za/media/defau...s/lc_prado.pdf

42 degrees incline and sideway. So, i assume that our oil pan is made for these steep inclines (unlike Tacoma with its car powertrain)??

But this is the Prado, not GX specifically.

I have no clue, but 21 should be ok I guess. It must be included in the technical data sheet but I don't have time to look and don't really care at the moment .

BTW, this was the reason why i am concerned: http://neverbuyatacomaoffroad.com/

How much of that article is true, i don't know. But it does beg the question.......is our GX designed for steep incline without oil starvation?? Is our oil pan different from a Lexus ES? Is there a secondary pump to avoid starvation?

You worry too much. I used to own a Taco and a Tundra and are well aware of that unique incident. The forum naysayers bloated it up much more. There are more than 1 millions Taco running around and many of them offloading and they are extremely reliable ( but not indestructible).

Just enjoy your GX and beat the crap out of it while at it. The head gasket, 2nd air pump, transfer case will die way before you encounter the oil starvation situation.
