My GX has the TPMS light flash on start up and then stays on. The spare was kind of low on air and I filled it up and the light has not gone away. I think ACRAD said that when the light flashes and says on it is the tpms monitor.
Less then 30 miles into a 1,200 mile road trip my Low Tire Pressure light came on. I opened up obdlink app and see one TPMS is reading negative values of -14.5 PSI and -40°F.
The day before I went to discount tire and had them check all ties and do a balance and rotation. Did they somehow break one of my sensors or is it just coincidence?
Anything I can do about it myself with either obdlink or techstream? Or do I need to take it to a discount tire? I've searched for TPMS reset and apparently that's not an option on the GX and other posts recommend going to a dealer.
It is definitely possible to damage a sensor. I did have a defective one on an Infiniti years back that would hold a low pressure reading and needed to be replaced.
How old are the sensors? 7-10 years seems to upper life but did replace some a few years back that were 11 years old and still working.
Started the car this morning for the second leg of the trip and the low tire pressure light was flashing. Opened up obdlink and now another sensor is reading the same negative values.
Don't know how old the sensors are. Bought the car used 2.5 years ago and put new tires on it within the first month. I know they reused the same sensors because I had the tech take pictures of the serial numbers for me in case I needed to reprogram them with techstream.
Are you pulling any TPMS error codes with OBD Link?
The low pressure values won't be seen as errors but curious if anything else is detected.
Does it let you add a gauge for TPMS Batter voltage? I've never added with this with Link so not sure what it will display. IIRC Techstream doesn't give you an actual voltage but simply says "Good"...I could be wrong on that too.
Not really much out there on this issue other than possibly being sensors on the way out (batteries dying).
EDIT: I just checked on mine and battery value just shows zero. Perhaps this is one where vehicle needs to be moving. I just checked in garage.
The sensor on the top of the screenshot (ID3) is now sending data and no longer showing negative values. The middle one is still showing negative values.
Thanks for the heads up, I didn't think to check TPMS error codes. I'm getting
C2124 Cannot Receive a Data from the Transmitter ID4 (Main)
OBDLink isn't pulling TPMS voltage. I remember when I first set it up I wanted gauges for PSI, Temp, and Voltage but Voltage for each sensor shows 0.0V. Maybe techstream can read the voltages?
I checked on mine above and seems voltage showing 0 is normal.
Are you running anything new electrical related in any areas of the vehicle? I get these communication errors like you pulled randomly when I have my ARB refrig in the rear and being powered off my power station in the back.
My setup appears to create RF interference on the same band as TPMS sensors. It will end up only being the rear ones as well.
Added the TPMS voltages to OBDLink and 2 of 5 are now showing a value of 1 which I'm interpreting as "good". See OBDLink's description of the options below, think they should all be like ID5's description.
No modifications to vehicle in at least 6 months. I've actually been on vacation the past 1.5 months and barely driven the car. I do have a lot of electronics in the car right now and a handheld ham radio, but the light came on before I turned it on and I've barely used it.
I searched for the error code and found a thread in the LS forums. Someone said discount tire has a handheld tool to "wake up" the sensor, but they also said it's to bring it out of the sleep state they're shipped in. I looked for discount tires along my route and most are closed.
Hopefully it's an easy fix because if it is a bad sensor I'd rather replace all and not just one.
