Yes, I will have to buy an extra for the spare. I was looking for a set of 5 on EBay/Amazon etc. and they do make a couple.

does the 60$ include reprogramming?
the batteries are about 5$ or less, and the battery stores can weld solder tabs to the batteries if they dont have them already available with the tabs.
not sure which glue is used in this video, but black permatex works great.



another option is to disable the system.
another option is to use the aftermarket stem cap sensors instead. these also give you the temp and allow you to set the pressure range you want. the receiver is solar powered, has a battery or can use the 12v power outlet.

I have stem cap system for my winter wheels(OEM hyper silver) but my summer wheels(OEM chrome) have the “paired” TPMS. In a perfect world I would be able to “pair” my winter wheels like other older Lexus’ are capable of. I think for under $100 I’ll buy aftermarket pre-programmed TPMS but will still have to have them “paired” using a scan tool from a tire store or even better buy a tech stream and do it myself(minus the mounting of course)

Buyer beware on those solar powered ones. I used a set on snow tires of my Mazda and the retaining nut that you tighten up against the sensor corroded. I ended up having to destroy the sensors removing them. If I had to do over again I'd use a little anti-seize.

You can easily program with Techstream if you have that on hand. Just document the codes on sensors. I swap tire sets twice a year and reprogram with TS in less than 5 minutes.

My experience with TPMS is that they need a dealer tool to pair them with your car. I am not sure the price of the TPMS includes this pairing that takes a little bit of time. A friend of mine instead recommended that I purchase new aftermarket sensors and there is a tool that is used to clone your old sensors so that you need not pair the new sensors since they are essentially clones of the old sensors. I did this 3 years ago on my Toyota and its been fine ever since. Zero issues.

yes, that slim backup nut should not be used in my opinion. it will corrode, and at a minimum damage the valve threads if you need to remove it. it really serves only to prevent someone from over tightening but if its your cap then not a concern.

Acrad35751, there are so many techstream TIS on eBay and Amazon, do you have a link of a reputable one? My only issue now is finding a laptop that I could use just for Techstream

i found that it was best for me to just download different versions since not all seemed to work in all sections
i ended using 12 something, was a while back

John00, I’m definitely not tech savvy I thought the only way to use Techstream was the OBD2 plugged into a laptop with the downloaded disc. Is there a wireless way to program sensors and read check engine lights?

for engine lights and codes, you can use a wireless odb2 and torque lite to read, reset, etc
for the sensor programming you will need the laptop and sw. i think there's some wireless obd2 that work with it but the wired are much cheaper

I use OBD Link/Fusion with their wireless adapter for reading/erasing codes. This does not program. If you only plan to use with one vehicle then Fusion is good enough with 3rd party adapter.

I actually upgraded the version that came on CD with my cable using the version available for download here. My cable years back came with 10.x and when 12.x was released I upgraded. Looks like 14.x is now available.

Dumb question, but using OBDLink and the MX+, how do you change units on the tire pressure? I can only seem to get it to display in inHg, not psi.

EDIT: Nevermind..realized you have to disconnect first in order to change units.

ive used this on another vehicle



good:
worked great, charged from the sun or the usb.
settings adjustable
can set tires to different settings if wanted
has sound for warnings
has temp as well
<$40
no need to program in the sensors
easy to install/transfer
no ODB or app needed

bad:
there's some backup nuts -
too thin and can be crossthreaded easily
metal material corrodes and will cause them to stick to the valve threads


this unit can work fine without the backup nuts
