Thumbs up #Lane #change #auto #flashing mod completed

I start this thread to continue discussing the lane change auto flashing option (as most of European cars and newer Lexus models). I found this replacement relay for Toyota/Lexus/Suzuki cars seems interesting and promising:

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm...cket=14#detail

I am attempting to give it a try. One question: where is the original relay located on GX?

You're the one who I was hoping would spearhead this endeavor!

I have gone through my old emails and found a conversation that I had.
About a year ago, I contacted TapTurn (http://www.autowindow.com) about providing a product for the 5th gen 4Runner (2010+) and the GX460. He responded with the following:
Nothing in the near term. The DRL flashers in the 4runner are quite specialized to Toyota trucks and I don't have a source for those connectors.
The new Lexus often do not have a replaceable flasher anymore, it's built into the computer.
But if you can find an 8pin flasher in the GX460 we're in luck. Turn on the hazards and find the source of the ticking sound to get to the flasher module.
If the ticking sound is coming from the speakers in the vehicle, it's not a replaceable module and will be no luck.
I'm not sue if the comment about the flasher is true since the GX seems to be behind the current generation of Lexus vehicles in terms of technology carrying over/trickling down. Purely speculation... I don't have any wiring diagrams or schematics.... Nor the know-how on how to read any of it. I also haven't tried to find the "8 pin flasher" that he was talking about.

Fingers crossed and hopefully the relay you found works.

Thanks for finding all of these upgrades. The OBD auto folding mirrors was a job well done! I hope you get your TPMS indicators to work.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. TPMS indicator was a no go unfortunately. It appears had different communication protocol even with the same 315MHz transmitters. As to flashing relay, I do think it is the 8 pin relay widely used in Toyota line of cars/trucks. Judging the ticking sound is from behind the dashboard. I sort of remembered from some posts that relay is way behind instrument panel. If that's the case, it would be too much of the work to do a simple replacement. Hoping someone in this forum would be able to chime in for some confirmed and/or directional information on the location of the relay. Let's keep the finger crossed......

If that's case, all we need is to remove the panel with mirror switch and possible the vent panel to easily assess the relay.

Parts lists anyway at mylparts shows two flashers.

'10-'16 with tow hitch - 81980-60160 (more than likely all the way to '18_
'10-'12 without tow hitch - 81980-60130

Developer of Tapturn still trying to get it working on 4Runners after a couple years. Not sure on our rigs as I haven't looked at specific wiring diagrams but on those vehicles modifying affected trailer brakes and DRL operation.

If that is the relay in GX, then the pin layout is completely different than the one I found on taobao..... According the photo, it saidL fit 2010 to 20113 GX, wonder if 2014 and newer used different one? I guess I am going to pull the panel to see if I locate it on my 2014 GX.

I’m curious as to why there are two different relays. The GX is prewired for the trailer light hookup. When I purhasd the OEM trailer, they didn’t make any mention of needing a relay.

So basically, only 8 pins are utilized. If we can get an toyota 8 pins relay diagram, it can be mapped to 8 pins relay and achieve using 8 pin relay with auto flashing function then...... Am I getting ahead of myself now?

Done some researches on the wiring diagrams from various cars and trucks from Lexus and Toyota, it is possible to just simply replace this relay with the one I have found (first post). The difference between towing or not, was a 30A power into pin#11, rest of 8 pins used are the same function as 8 pins Toyota relay used on most of other models. One interesting finding is Toyota 4 runner uses same relay, but used pin# 10 & 17 for front turn signals as a separate connection and pin# 2 & 8 for rear turn signals, while GX using pin# 2 & 8 for both front and rear turn signals. The only explanation might be the previous 4 runner uses front turn signal as DRL as well. I checked GX470 wiring, it appeared as same separate connection although it was a different relay.

I am going to tackle on this in few weeks to see if can make the replacement to work. Stay turned
