Can anyone recommend a way to temporarily disable Telematics functions (Safety Connect/Enform/data transmission, etc.) in a GX460? Aside from parking deep in an underground garage, that is.

I’d like to think there is a one wire, one connector or one fuse method, but expect that it is probably more complicated. For one, it seems the Telematics system has a backup Li-ion battery buried somewhere, maybe near the roof-mounted antenna. Anyone know how this works?

Sure, let's post this helpful information on a public forum so some 16 year old want-to-be car thief can learn how to disable the stolen vehicle tracking feature. Personally, I like that the main system components and backup battery are well hidden, robust enough to survive a significant crash and difficult to disable without triggering emergency vehicles to respond to the vehicle's location.

 

 

Actually, I’d have a hard time hiding from anyone, what with the insurance tracker, LoJack the dealership kindly added and ‘Good-To-Go’ transponder (Easypass for rightcoasters). Anyhow, I’d likely not sneak out of here in a rather distinctive brand new white GX, what with all the LE intersection cameras hereabouts.

 

However, to suggest that posting a method of temporarily disabling the Telematics system somehow gives car thievs an advantage is at least disingenuous. Do we really believe hardened criminals targeting these vehicles don’t already know how? By the time anyone, including Enform, picks up on it, the GX is sure to be in an intermodal container enroute some Wogistan where it can be sold black market for large. For that matter, any snot-nose druggie having nothing more than a large pair of side-cutters and a box cutter could silence the system in less time than it takes to thumb type this. Crude, but hey - he doesn intend ever to turn in back on again. I do.
