Default Special order?

How long did your special order take? 2 months here and still don't have a scheduled production date. Is this unusual?

To me, that sounds really strange. What is unique about what you ordered?

I just know when I looked at the dealership, they had quite a bit in inventory coming in and I could pretty much get what I wanted. I ended up using a vehicle wholesaler I know, but I as able to choose pretty much anything I wanted and it took a week. But it wasn;t "special ordered" I was just able to find the color and options I wanted. I basically got a "base" model.
If its two months in and you still your car hasn't even been "made" yet, I personally would cut bait and go somewhere else. Get some out of state quotes and just ship it from a different dealership out of state.

Ordered black with espresso trim basic GX,regular add one but the kicker was that my husband wanted that protective film (which they could do aftermarket)but I really wanted the f sport wheels and they were going to charge me like $1200 on top of the just the wheel option to swap them out of one on the lot. This is a 3rd car fir us so we didn't mind the speculated 90 day wait from Japan, but now 9 weeks in and not even a build date makes me wonder!

A couple of points.

First, at any point in time, the factory production lines are set up to build vehicles with certain similar combinations of packages and options. When you special order a vehicle, Lexus does not stop the production line and start building the car that you ordered. Instead, your order will wait until a production line is set up to build vehicles with similar packages and options to what you have ordered. Thus, it could be the case that you get lucky and have your vehicle built in a short time frame, or, on the other hand, it could be a much longer time before the factory is building vehicles close enough to what you ordered.

Also, you should be aware of the fact that the paint protection film option that Lexus offers (which is actually, I believe, a port installed option and not one that is done at the factory) Is likely to be one for which the film is applied only to the front portion of the hood. While that is an area that is vulnerable to paint nicks from stones and other debris, there are lots of other areas on the car that are vulnerable to damage, and it is becoming common for car buyers to have much more of the car covered with the protection film. For example, for my most recent car purchase, it got a paint protection film package for which the film covered the complete hood, complete bumper, complete front fenders, mirrors, door handle cups, and the edges of the doors. While I paid over twice what the option that Lexus offers costs, much more than twice as many vulnerable areas are protected.
