Bummer, at least you are under warranty. Please ask the cost of this if you were not and report back. Since I am out of warranty I would use a different shop that would be cheaper. I am curious of what I am in for if this happens to me.

Will do..I would do the same and take to an independent shop if I didn't want to tackle myself.

Last water pump that went bad for me was my 20 year old Explorer with 150k miles so kinda disappointed to see this at 38k miles. Looking at Tundra forums this is not uncommon even at lower mileage like mine.

Oh man, hope Lexus will take care of you. Even though my truck has low mileage its age put it out of the warranty range. ... sucky!

is that leak visible with just the hood up? or do we have to take the plastic pieces off of the engine?.

2 of the 3 used GX460's that I test drove this month also had timing chain cover leak, you could see this from passenger side wheel well looking up, above the alternator to the left. If I were you I would check this till the last day/mile of power train warranty, seems like cost is 2-3k to replace that seal.

I was able to see from bottom passenger side. It will be easy to spot if OEM pink coolant is in there as it turns to what can be described as pink cotton candy. From top ...engine cover pops off easily. If you had just a minor leak I would probably use one of those small cheap telescoping mirrors and a flashlight and look for anything pink in this area. In picture above that is the timing mark indicator IIRC that has most of the pink on it it this picture.

So far dry everywhere I have looked from an oil standpoint but will double check area you mentioned. I still need to pull spark plug coils to see if I have any oil intrusion in the socket wells. This has been reported as well.

I should be getting vehicle back today. Water pump is being replaced under powertrain warranty. Surely cheaper at 3rd party shop and a lot cheaper yourself but Lexus would charge around $1K for this out of pocket according to service writer.

Had mine replaced around 70k. Truck went into limp mode and i couldn't drive over 35 mph. I really thought i was screwed. Got it to the dealer and they said the water pump was leaking and replaced it under the CPO warranty/original powertrain. I'm going to have my service person do an inspection prior to my CPO expiring in the spring of 2018. Thanks for all the info.

I think my water pump is also leaking. While doing oil change over the weekend, I noticed a couple of pink spots on the skid plate as well a few pink spots from the water pump leading down.
It could have been recently since the last oil change from Toyota didn't report it (or maybe they didn't look) lol...

Just bought a Toyota Aisin one from eBay as well as a thermostat. It's suck that I'm out of warranty.

Yeah... that looks familiar and in same spots underneath.

Are you going to throw it on yourself or take to an independent shop?

EDIT: This is for a 5.7L Tundra but gives you an idea of task on our rigs.

I probably will take it to a friend’s shop and let him do it. I’m going to stop by Toyata dealer to pick up some pink coolant. Do you think one gallon is good or it needs more?

I’m surprised there are many early failure of water pumps.

Is there still fluid in the recovery tank? Mine had dropped down about an inch from the top of the radiator cap after sucking the recovery tank dry. The water pumps do seem to be a weak link.

Yes the reserve tank fluid is between the low and high mark, right in the middle. I'm going to monitor and check it for the next few days. I think it's slow leaking from the weeping hole.

Interestingly, I stopped by my friend’s shop and saw this.

Sounds like you just caught it starting out. I would think a single gallon should be fine. Were you planning to capture fluid from bottom like in the videos?
