Helps to securely hold your large stainless tumblers or similar cups.

I believe these lights, much like the footwell lights, are not plug n play unless you buy the oem led.

Anyone have any new information on this subject? Our 2017 460 has a cracked center console cup holder, with the little arms missing on one side. Not sure what to do. Our 48 month warranty runs out Feb of 2021, but it doesn't sound promising.

Yes, the Toyota / Lexus cup holder design(s) are some of the worst in the industry ... but hey, the rest-of-world is not as fixated on cup holders being important as in the USA ... so why spend $$$'s to get back to something that did not work all that great in the first place. I don't have a solution, but others have referenced retro-fit deigns that actually make the cup holder significantly more functional.

If you're under warranty I would escalate with Lexus corporate.

Default OEM Cup Holder Upgrade for 2010-2013

Hello All,

I am very excited to share with you my latest MOD. I think that this one gives me a lot of satisfaction for the problem it fixes, the cost (50 dollars on eBay), and the ease of the replacement.

As you may know, the front console cup holders on the 2010-2013 GX460 is just plain terrible. While there are a number things that I prefer on the older 2010-2013 GX460 (like more standard features), the cupholder is not one of them. There are even inserts on eBay that are aftermarket that claim to fix how terrible they are. My thought is that Lexus probably did a better job at fixing this issue themselves with their newer version in the 2014+ GX460.

I just didn't know if the new cupholder would fit in the older ones place. I also wasn't willing to spend over $300 on a new one from Lexus. Fortunately, I recently found one on eBay for 50 dollars. It's mine, it works, it's glorious.

Here are pics of my old one.

Old cup holder in place, new one sitting in the passenger seat.

The process of taking it apart required removing the padding from the side of the console, lifting up the shifter cover, and then pulling up on the cup holder. Underneath the cupholder is 2 screws that connects it to the center box.

Old cupholder pulled out. It is still attached to the front portion of the center console box with two screws.

Here is the new one in place. It is O so quiet and snugged the cups so nicely.

Only limitation is that the 2010-2013 cupholder didn't have a light. There is a light on the newer one but there is no connected for the light.

Enjoy!!

Actually the light in cup holders went in on 2012 Premium models.

Pic of a replacement I put in.

I'm a bit confused...I haven't had an issue with the cupholders in my '12 GX - what is supposedly so terrible about them? And in what way are the newer ones better?
Thanks!

The older version was noisy. Whenever there was a sound of plastic rubbing together emanating from my car it would be from the cup holder (with its removable center divider). It also didn't have a good ability to hold drinks so in turns it they would fall over. I know I am not the only one to notice given that Lexus quickly changed for the refresh.

Good to know there are no fit issues with the newer one. Is the difference between the two the presence of the two rubber support bits on the newer one that help stabilize the cup/bottle?

Essentially they redesigned the entire cup support system. There are now 4 spring loaded and soft touch support teeth that are in the new one. The old one had just one support from the removable divider which wasn’t enough support and it was noisy.
