Default GX windshield?

Safelite Auto Glass showed up today with a Chinese made Fuyao windshield. Has anyone had road noise that is louder than other windshields from this brand. Is the Lexus brand quieter? What other aftermarket brands are out there. There was a Pilkington prior to this Fuyao one.

You should request OEM replacement from your insurance assume that you do have windshield coverage. I have my LX replaced twice and both times have insisted with OEM parts.

And make sure they don't scratch up the paint as they clean up the old urethane or if they do they touch it up with some paint. Otherwise your pillar(s) will start rusting in a few years. But not all windshield technicians are equally negligent of course.

You have to request a "premium" or OEM windshield when scheduling the service, otherwise Safelite and your insurance will prefer the cheaper option. Ultimately your insurance may reject the request, but you can at least have Safelite do the legwork with your insurance to see what they will approve. Premium would be something like Pilkington, which would be more compatible with OEM Lexus glass.

You have the right to choose where to get your car repair. The insurance company will always steer you to safelite or other cheaper option for their best interest. They even said that they will only pay the normal replacement cost and you would have to cover the difference....etc. The last 2 times I got my windshield and rear window replaced, I took it to a local Lexus dealership. The insurance (safeco) paid me in full, less the deductible, of course.

I'm running a Fuyao that was installed during prior ownership. No issues with noise and the sensor for the wipers works fine. Watch the side trim pieces and the clips as I'm 100% confident that they were mangled during the install and they eventually failed. Figure $50-60 a side for a new trim piece and clips in case one lets go on the highway.

Biggest thing as others have said, it comes down to the quality of the installer. Either watch them through the whole process or make it known upfront that you expect perfection.

I also have Fuyao installed from previous owner too. No noise that I could tell and everything works fine.

I just battled Progressive with this last month. They wanted to put aftermarket in as my policy, despite being full coverage with a low deductible, said I didn’t have the ‘rider’ for OEM replacement parts. WTH? Called my agent and she sent me to someone other than Safelite. That installer called Progressive and explained the need for OEM. I got the OEM. Love a new windshield and they did a great job on it. Now, I have to go get the full windshield tinted again - 80% Uber on the full glass - keeps it cool inside.

When I got my 2022, I gotten the front windshield tinted from the inside 80% ceramic tint, on the outside of the front I had the shop installed EXO shield, clear bra for the windshield to protect against rock chips. Think of it as a screen protector on your cellphone. Use it a few years, it will get scratched and hazy, remove and add another one, save your OEM one. I done this to all my vehicles for the last 8 years

I held out for 3 weeks to get a Pilkington again but caved when trusted installer said he hasn't had any callbacks on this brand. I only have a $50 deductible on comp so if it doesn't last will hold out again with Pilkington. Optically checks out perfect to my eyes and no noticeable interior noise increase.

Installed 2-3 years ago and just noticed the weather striping and a warp in the reflection shown in the video. I will go back to Safelite and see what they say. This has to change the integrity of the windshield and I am concerned with leaking.

UGH.. so this just happened.. Called State Farm and they said the dealer 'Sewell' isn't part of their ' authorized vendors ' but I could still have'em do the replacement if they agree to the 'negotiated rate'! Haven't been able to contact Sewell because they are now closed for the day!

Wondering if I should go with Safelite ! Really would want OEM as replacement, not an aftermarket!

Any advise or recommendations on how to get State Farm to agree for an OEM replacement ? ( they haven't said no yet, and I have full coverage )

Thanks..

I have Progressive and they wanted me to use Safelite and some aftermarket windshield. I called my agent and she put me in touch with a different installer who appealed the use of the aftermarket. For me to pay the upgrade through Safelite was $780. I told my agent to make sure they change my coverage to make sure that I get OEM parts for any future claims.

If I was you I would call or stop by a couple windshield places and see if they have or can do this for you. The place that I used had an answer within 20 minutes.

Okay, State Farm wouldn't budge on paying for dealer/oem glass!.. It was either Safelite or pay $900 + deductible for OEM from Safelite ..plus wait till 9/23 to get it done!! Or, get it done at Sewell, pay out of pocket ( $2500 ) and then file a claim for re-reimbursement which won't be anywhere near the out of pocket expense!.. wow.. Did some research and went with 'Optic Kleer' and will be done on Monday!

What a PITA!

I just noticed that there is some damage on the panel ( see pics ) It's a pretty deep gash and I'm concerned about this part rusting down the road.. I'm assuming this would still be covered under Comp ? I'm not so sure I should go ahead with the 3rd party windshield anymore because they likely won't address this damage...

Also, what exactly is that part called ? Outer windshield panel ?

Your thoughts plz!! Especially on how to take this up with the insurance now..
