BTW, does anyone have the compass on the rear view mirror in the 2010/2011 model? I think I read it somewhere but I don't have it.
Mine's a 2010 and the compass is in the rear view mirror. Maybe it's a setting?

yes. Just bc I want to make super sure we are talking about the same thing - when I look in the rear view mirror there's a N, S, E, W (or nw, se, etc) telling me the direction I'm going. Yes it's there just as it is in my 2001 4runner. And I have NAV and I have the setting on the nav to always have my car headed up, meaning the car doesn't change, the map changes. If I'm driving south the car on the map still faces up. I don't think the compass shows on the map in that setting but I could be wrong. Is it possible that the nav setting changes what you see in the rear view mirror? I always just look at the rear view mirror so I've never looked to see if I have compass on my Nav.

I'd take a picture but it's at the dealer getting the blue ink stains off my ecru seats. (Slams head against the desk for ever getting ecru).

If you don't have a compass, what do you see in the top right of your rearview mirror, nothing?
