On a road trip over thanksgiving giving break my engine light, traction and 4lo came in all at once. We were in the middle of nowhere and the car was driving fine so we continued to drive it. Mechanic could not find anything wrong with it and cleared the codes. Last week I was driving to work on freeway about 80 and noticed it wasn’t shifting into its highest gears and the lights came back on. Everything before the 5tu and 6th shift smoothly and work fine. I took it to Lexus dealership and they quoted me for a transmission replacement of 9k. These are the codes: picture attached. It seems like they don’t want to do any diagnostic work to address the issues and are just wanting to a transmission replacement. I have 211,000 miles and it has been welll maintained and I read that theses transmissions should go at 300+. Any thoughts? Should I just replace the transmission although the cost isn’t far from the actual value of the car.
Also, this is how much the transmission costs from Lexus:
Personally, I'd purchase the transmission myself and look for an well-reviewed independent to install.
This job should not cost anywhere near $9K, $5K tops including parts.
