Default Caster alignment input

Hello,

this past Friday I had my gx leveled with the bilstiens and now my front right tire rubs the side steps. I was debating on just cutting off the inner portion of the step but I don’t know if I really want to cut into it. The current caster is set at 3.6 Driver and 3.3 Pass. From my research a lifted gx should be between 2.5 and 4.1. Being that the current alignment is basically in the middle of the recommended range. What’s peoples opinion on adjusting it to where it no longer rubs or just cut off the side step rear. I’d probably have to cut off about 1.5” from the bottom rear of the steps.

thanks in advance.

If there is any more caster to be had, you should have them add it.

Is the set up otherwise exactly the same as it was before you leveled it?

running any wheel spacers you can simply remove?

Besides the shocks and uca everything remains the same. No spacers to remove either.

aftermarket ucas with built in caster do get the wheel closer to body mount.

Thinking out loud here: what I don’t know is if all these alignment machines account for aftermarket caster or if they assume the ball joints are in their OE locations.

Unless they take time to measure the NEW ball joint locations and their respective angle to get the steering angle (or whatever the outcome is called), the machine might not really know and in theory you might have more caster than the printout says.

that’s all to say, maybe dial some OUT and the wheels will get further from the rear body mount and running boards while still performing fine.

... love these blind discussions that surmise with incomplete information.

As for the parts installed on the gx they are the bilstien 5100s with dirt king UCAs. Wheel are the RRW7H 17x8.5 -12 with 265/70/17 Toyo.

Seems like best option may be to adjust caster as there was no rubbing issues on OEM suspension.

... it's the -12mm Offset ... stock +25mm to -12mm places a stock sized tire 37mm (1.5 inches) in the outboard direction ... with an approximate 2:1 loss in clearance to the front body mount. No way Caster can compensate ... maybe 0.5 inches of (move forward) additional clearance.

Have 265/70-17 Nitto A/T's on 8.5/17 wheels with +1 Offset ... dead-nuts centered in wheel well and am JUST on the hairy edge of rubbing with a fender liner pull-back both fore and aft.

Any reason why there would be no rubbing on the stock height and only began rubbing once the lift was installed?

They gave us the info.

Was stock with the wheels/tires - no spacers. Of course -12 is aggressive, but it did not rub stock, so moot point IMO.
Added 5100s and UCAs only.

No surmising was done.

OP, I too would have caster adjusted to move wheels forward - see if you get it good.

^ ... Ready, Shoot, Aim ... no parameters were in original post other than "Bilsteins" and "Lift" and "UCA". And yes ... -12mm Offset is way too aggressive for the GX without significant challenge.

... lift does nothing for clearance ... pre / post lift the suspension follows the exact same path from full compression to full droop. Lifting actually places the resting tire centerline more in line with the side steps and front body mount, so actually makes that worse for non off-road users. The -12mm offset is the bigger factor causing the interference.
