I just bought a 2012 gx460 with 180k miles has had an atf flush. I shifted into manual and was seeing if it would run through the gears while stopped. When I shifted into 1s got CEL and 4lo flashing. Being looking through h various forums and half and half say new transmission. It shifts fine and hasn’t popped up since I cleared it. Looking at changing valve body and solenoids just to be safe. What are yalls thoughts or input?

FYI, here is what the SM shows for that code. There is also a lengthy flow chart there for diagnosing the problem.
Mine started this yesterday. 140k miles on a well cared for truck. I'm round about 40k miles on the current ATF fluid and filter. Bright red, smells like ATF, Tastes horrible. Mine shifted fine even with the CEL/TRACOFF/Flashing 4lo. Cleared the code. Everything seems happy at the moment even after a cold start and drive this morning. I need to pull the radiator this weekend so I guess I'll be dropping the trans pan too.
This is a very interesting code. The FSM procedure ends with a gear box swap which is INSANE to me. I'm not seeing much out there about this being intermittent and it looks as if a complete swap is the only known fix. I saw some people did a hardness, solenoid, and valve body but that's more than 30% of the cost of the gear box. Very weird.
My local dealer has a 6 speed for $3000 ish which is not the worst news I've ever had. Looks like once you pull the passenger side header is the hardest part, maybe those top two bell housing bolts. Has anyone here done this at home? I have a lift but I have a very broken BMW occupying that space. I'm reasonably confident I can do this on jack stands over a weekend. I guess you do the starter too while you're in there.
I'll be daily driving this so I'll keep this updated
