Default Undocumented or Hidden Features?

Hey everyone,

I’ve had my GX460 for a little while now, and I’ve started to notice a few small features or behaviors that don’t seem to be clearly documented in the owner’s manual. I’m curious if anyone else has picked up on the same, or discovered any hidden features of their own.

One example is the soft-close behavior of the power windows. I don’t think this is mentioned anywhere, but it’s a nice touch.

Another one I swear I’ve noticed: the transmission will automatically downshift when going downhill as soon as the brakes are applied. Almost like engine braking kicks in without having to manually shift.

Has anyone seen any official Lexus documentation on things like this? Or noticed other small features that aren’t called out in the manual?

I know on my old BMW, for example, the rain-sensing wipers would adjust based on vehicle speed, with a longer delay when stopped versus when driving.

I've also noticed and appreciated those two features you mentioned.

The dash will notify if the moonroof is left open after turning the engine off.

Curious what others have come across!

I enjoy both of those features. When I first came across the downshift occurrence, I tested if over and over to understand it. I never really thought about them not being documented but I have read the manual.

Not GX exclusive but an undocumented Lexus feature that you may find useful:
When you press the steering wheel "Mode" button briefly it changes the radio sources
from AM to FM to XM to CD to Bluetooth.

When you press and hold the Mode button it will Mute a radio station or Pause the playback
of CD's or Streaming media. Press and hold again to un-mute or resume playback.

I wish it had a better indication - but I'm 99% sure our GX's have a "Hold" function when stopped on an incline/decline. At least I know I've released my brake before and the truck stayed planted until I hit the gas. My GF's 2025 Benz GLE350 has that too - but it also has a handy "HOLD" indicator that lights up when activated. I think it is 2 presses of the brake while stopped? Can anyone confirm?

I figure most know, but the little flip down mirror (kid / conversation mirror) up above the rearview is a sunglasses holder if you pull it further open.

You can put all kinds of things in there - not just sunglasses

hello I know about the mute feature but my question is how do you turn the damn thing off? There doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere on the steering wheel or elsewhere. I have not read the manual sorry hoping for an answer here instead of searching for my manual. Thanks

One thing I discovered the other day after 7 years of ownership is if you have the headlight rotating selector on "Auto" and you pull the lever to turn on the high beams manually, the vehicle will automatically turn on and off the hi beams and switch lo beams as cars are approaching or not so as not to blind oncoming drivers. It's how I drive at night now...

That's only on the Luxury trim, isn't it?
