Did the screen sizes on this conversion change? I ordered mine in June or July - the ones I see some members posting seem to have a taller display than mine? The first photo below is my unit. 3 rows in CarPlay. The second picture is u/hzhao's unit - it looks taller and has 4 rows in CarPlay. I've noticed this on other posts as well. What gives?

Possibly it's just the "Smart Zoom" feature in ios 26

Don’t think the screen size had changed, maybe just the photo destroyed due to the shooting angle. As for the row of icons in CarPlay, mine is on iOS 26 with Smart Zoom on. If set to off, will just be two rows of giant icons. If you are on iOS 18, smart zoom will only give you three rows. IOS 26 smart zoom will be dynamically adjusted based on screen resolution presented from CarPlay unit.

I took another closer look, especially at the trims around the screen (or the bezel), it does seems two different screen, yours the right and left a bit thicker compared to to mine, which is about the same all around. Maybe they have different suppliers either way slightly different hardware.
any performance comparisons between the standard that uses the oem screen and the premium that has the large screen?
also how do the apps work differently with oem resistive vs aftermarket capacitive? such as scroll, zoom on maps, etc.

All the functions of OEM are retained, performed as same. When in OEM mode, the right small portion of the screen will be just a fixed graphic. You have the option of starch the OEM contents to full screen, but that will look bad IMO. Since OEM software is designed for resistive display, the app still works in the same way, no pinch to zoom function for OEM maps, only touch. With the upgrade, I don’t even see any reason to use OEM map at all.
as an example, with the oem screen, running aftermarket map sw using the hamilton nonpremium kit, how does the zoom function on the map work?
the premium screen i imagine you can use two fingers same as most phones or tablets.
what will happen while driving with these kits if you hold the phone hang up button 0.5 seconds, release for 0.5 seconds, press again for 0.5 seconds then release?
can someone try?
i ask because i have a secondary module i added for added functionality and this is one of the sequences to enable certain functions.
im still debating which version, regular or premium. the premium HW looks better but is all of the improvement used up by the screen requirement or do the apps actually work better?
id rather have stock appearance and its less expensive but im still not sure which one to get. im not a fan of the huge screen on top but i could go with that if theres enough benefit
Contact Hamilton. I was able to update my unit without issue. Would be cool if they provided actual instructions as well as a change log since these update buttons are exposed to users.
You are correct, these are two different sizes. It's very clear just by looking at the pictures. But if you want to be precise, use a photo editing tool to measure them.
