Default Steering Rack Question

My 2010 w/144k miles has some moderate vibration at ~70 mph. I've rotated the tires and it seemed a little worse. I'm hoping it's wheel/tire issue...but is this normal:

W/the GX on jackstands I don't see any noticable play in the ball joints, etc. I didn't have the steering wheel locked, but when I pushed one front wheel in the other wheel moved proportionally. Maybe 1 degree of "play." I've never noticed this on any other car. If it were inner tie rods i wouldn't see a proportionate response the other side. Should I recheck w/the steering locked? Could this point to a steering rack/gear issue?

Always start simple. Are tires in good shape? If so have them road force balanced at Discount tire or similar and go from there. From what you describe, I don't think you have any suspension issues.

I paid to have the tires balanced and an alignment & it's running smooth. Tires are probably at 50% or so, FYI.

Ditto to what Mike said... though the balancing will tell you that you don't have a bent rim, I would bet money on the tires being the issue. I don't drive my car much and I still have at least 50% left but due to the age of the tires... maybe approaching 7 or 8 years, the car has developed a minor shake and a random pull even at speeds around 40 MPH.

Before you give me grief for driving on such old tires, since I work from home and my girlfriend's company car is in the body shop after some idiot rear ended us, she gets the daily driver and well, I am down to driving my Lexus back and forth a mile to Publix. It won't see a highway or even 50 mph until the new tires come in.
