Stuck Parking Brake Release - Small Thud During Acceleration
HI All, Hope everyone is doing well.
While I was up at my parents for X-mas after a 4hr trip, I decided to take my '23 to the coin op to blast the salt off by pressure washing only. When I got back, I parked in their inclined driveway and applied the parking break. When I went to use the truck next day, I release the p-brake and the truck wouldn't move. For whatever stupid reason, I decided to rev the engine and probably around 3-4k RPM, she released with a bang. I searched google and see others also experienced the same. Everything is working as normal, EXCEPT:
I don't know if it was there before or not and whether I was looking for something wrong and only noticed it afterwards, but every time I am at a stop (no parking brake) just regular driving, as I accelerate, I feel a very faint thud not at the beginning of acceleration, but about 1-2 seconds in as she is starting to accelerate. For the past month it is not changing at all and does it pretty much 80% of all accererations from stop. It's very faint, but it's there. I plan to mention it during my regular service interval in May to keep under the radar. My only thought is if the torque, when I was trying to release the stuck parking break, may have caused an issue with the differential or something. I would expect the issue to be right as soon as you initiate acceleration, but it's 1-2 seconds into it. Feels like it's coming from the centre.
Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue or may know what it could possibly be.

For sure applying the parking brake in freezing weather, after being wet, is ill advised due to the "freezing up" you experienced. The strain on the drive train and sudden release (impact load) could have tweaked something a bit such that you are now experiencing a slight thud. Maybe a yoke issue?

Ugh. Exactly. I agree with everything you said. I can’t believe I did that….Well, something is for sure that I damaged something in that robust engine or drivetrain. I’m really beating myself up for it. I’m not sure if I should take to the dealer now to have things checked. Thanks for your response. Not sure about yoke. It only happens once and it’s after the car starts moving. I would think if it’s the yoke it would be a repetitive sound? In envision scoring my cylinder walls, stretching timing chain, damaging transmission, bending valves and all kinds of BS. Lol
From other threads, the yoke "release" seems to usually be lube related. The yoke isn't as free to slide as needed during axle windup so it binds and then releases suddenly, creating a "thud." I'd crawl under there at least and throw so eyeballs on things. Maybe try and pull/push/rotate things to check for noise/movement
