Default Electrical Malfunctions -Triggered by parking brake? (VIDEO)

I'm hoping someone, perhaps a lexus tech, has seen this before or has a solution. My 2014 GX has left us stranded a few times where we come back to the car after parking it and we cannot get into it with key fobs or even the vallet key like it's on some extreme lockdown mode or just electrically malfunctioning. When we get a locksmith to use a slim jim to open the door. Then the car typically starts. I've finally narrowed it down to occuring if I use the parking brake. That makes me think it's a short. However, I don't know where to start looking or if that's even the right avenue. Any ideas?
Here's the video of the malfunctioning behavior that corresponds to the "I'm going to lock you out" mode.

So when this happens the use of the mechanical valet key won’t work as if the lock actuator is fighting you to not allow unlocking via the key cylinder?

The valet key won’t unlock but it turns freely. I put it in and turn 90 degrees with ease but it doesn’t unlock. Does that key turn rollers like a traditional lock or is it tied into the electrical/security system like a switch?

as I type this, it happened again so I’m about to have to call the locksmith twice in one day. The last two times we haven’t pressed the parking brake. If it’s a short, it’s pretty easily activated- oddly just appearing when the car is unattended though….

You should be able to physically open the door with the key unless lock cylinder is messed up. There are components that tie into lock and security but with a dead battery you should be able to unlock the door with that key.

Potentially a circuit energized when in locked/secured state is one shorting

Do you have OBD Fusion/Link or Techstream setup to pull codes?

One thing to note is that the battery is alive and well when it goes into this lock down mode. It doesn't react to key fobs at all. Could the security system disable the manual lock in this case? Well hold that thought - one way to find out is I need to test to see if the valet key works when the car is NOT being psycho. That would isolate that issue.

My brother has an OBD scanner I can borrow today. If I have to have a very specific one, I can order one though. What type of code should I expect if it is a short?

IIRC... vehicle will try to lock the door if alarm is going off so you might be fighting that.

Did your valet key work to open the door?

Simple $20 OBD scanner won't work... need some of the more advanced models... probably approaching $100 or more, Techstream or what I use

I just tested the valet key. The car wasn't malfunctioning meaning the fab worked to lock and unlock. Even still. the valet key alone didn't unlock the door. Same thing if I locked the car and removed the battery neutral. No workie. I flooded the lock with WD40 and worked it around for 10 minutes on and off to no avail. Is this a separate issue?

I have a
Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+
with the Car Scanner App.

I ran the diagnostic check which I supposed send any code since the last reset (not sure on that). There was a lot of "no communication" I don't know if that's a code or that the app doesn't communicate. However, it does seem to have no issues reading the coding settings or sensor readings. Question: Should I reset this and see what comes back?

It sounds like you might have a defective lock/actuator assembly that may be setting off the alarm too.

There are alarm logs one can look at but you need Techstream for that.

That is a lot of codes…. I’d start with getting that driver door lock issue addressed first

Had something similar in my 22 RX when I had a electric airpump charger in front 12v socket. Uplugged it, and no problem.

I have a potential solution I'm going to try tomorrow. Take a look at this video at just after the 5:00 mark. He replaced his actuator but the cog from the key assembly wasn't aligned so it wouldn't turn the lock. Because I can easily rotate my locking cylinder but feel nothing on the actual lock next to the handle - there isn't anything being translated. I'll check tomorrow to see if that resolves the unlocking, valet key issue.

Ok- that was the valet key issue. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!! The cog on the end of the shaft wasn’t engaged. 10 minute fix. Now at least we can get into the car if the electrical lockdown issue happens. I certainly hope that all
my problems will disappear but if not, I’m be back in here for some more help.
