Default 2006 GX470 Steering(?) Issue

Hello all.

There is a rather loud grinding, squealing sound when I turn my wheel all the way to the left. I believe I am also experiencing some caliper issues, but they may be unrelated.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Have you done any maintenance on the power steering fluid? How are the axles?

I bought it with 178k miles and it now has 181k and it took me about six months to drive that much. I've done zero maintenance so far. It didn't have the jack or jack-handle when I purchased it and my apartment complex doesn't allow working on your car, which makes it kind of difficult.

The power steering fluid is full.

Power steering fluid will *eventually* age out. You might be at that time.

Something else to look at is the condition of your accessory belt. It usually gets changed when you do the timing belt service. Which.. at 181k, you are due for.

All the fluids were new at the time of purchase.

Could this be a lubricant issue? I drove through some pretty deep water shortly before the issue began.

It’s strange to have grinding when you turn one direction. The P/S pump only spins one way to create pressure.
So id be curious if something is rubbing when you turn that way.
Could be wreak mounts allowing a heat shield or something to rub.

That's more inline with my thinking. Something rubbing on the rotor.

Thanks.

I checked tonight to be sure and it is when turning sharp right and left.

So, power-steering? How much to fix or replace?

Check the accessory belt and it's tensioner.

Ypu said new fluid was in everything at the time of purchase... what type of fluid was used in the power steering system?

Could it be an issue in wheel bearings? Just a thought.
