Hi all,
What are the standard items to replace when doing a tune-up on the 1st gen GX470? Thanks

Spark plugs and maybe a PVC valve..not much else...that’s the extent of a tune up these days.

Well I dont think you can really call it a complete tune up, may be a partial. About 1.5 years ago when my rig had about 225K miles, give or take a few, I did a timing belt job(also included radiator, coolant, water pump, belts, alternator seals, tensioner, idler replacement) and got the spark plugs replaced for the first time, Other than the sparkies people usually replaced during tune up , never really done anything else. My rig has been pleasure to drive and my vehicle that has the most milege, got my money's worth for sure.

Spark plugs at 100k Or just do them with the timing belt service at 90K (since you're opening your wallet wide anyway..)

Use factory spec NGK iridium plugs (Denso is fine too). Do NOT use Bosch or Champion.

They're expensive, but they last a very long time.

If youre after top running condition and preventative maintenance, I would do MAF sensor and throttle body cleaning, change engine air filter, change all fluids including transmission, transfer case, and both differentials. Change battery if old. Retorque valve cover bolts if not leaking, replace valve cover gaskets if leaking. I also like to run seafoam once in a while thru gas tank, intake, and crankcase right before I change the oil.

No points, rotor, condenser, distributor cap or checking the timing?

It has coil-on-plug, so there's no points, no rotor, no condenser, no cap. Timing is set by the computer based off the camshaft position sensor, the ambient temperature sensor, and a few other inputs.

The how-to video talks about gapping the plugs, but I've never seen a NGK that was wrong. So you just want to check the gap and check for the off chance it's wrong.

Additionally replace your accessory belt, idler pulley and tensioner or tensioner pulley as well. I like to through in the gas cap just as preventative.
