Default Noise coming from the engine when driving

Hey guys I'm having an issue with my truck and need some help figuring out what it is. Here is the issues I'm experiencing; when I'm driving I hear a noise coming from the engine bay that sounds like an exhaust leak. The noise gets a little louder the faster I go. I don't hear this noise when I'm parked and revving the engine or when I'm holding down the brakes and giving the car gas. I noticed it a few weeks ago when I was on the highway. It sounded like there was another car next to me with a modified exhaust. I know this is kinda vague and hope someone can help me figure this out. The last thing I want to do is take it to the stealership as they are all crooks by me. Thanks all.
BTW, No check engine lights and it's not a failing alternator as I had that issue last year replaced, also I remember the noise it made.

An exhaust manifold leak makes a loud ticking noise when the motor is under load (accelerating). Sounds like an old farm truck.

Thanks, I'm hoping it's something easily fixable such as an exhaust leak. I'm hoping to get under the truck after the weather warms up a bit.

Are you sure its under the engine bay? There an exhaust gasket about halfway down the car between the pipes for the muffler and cat. Mine was so burnt there was hardly anything left. New gasket made the tick much quieter. I do also have a small exhaust manifold leak I can hear under acceleration if I’m next to a wall

The manifolds are a common failure point, they crack and warp and cause exhaust leaks. I hope it's not that as they are a PITA and not cheap parts. Lots of guys go with Doug Thorley headers instead of manifolds.

Yeah, I think the dealer quoted me $1500 per side for my manifolds installed. I had them both done, but thankfully they were covered under the Platinum Toyota warranty that came with my GX. I read that Doug Thorleys are a PIA to install on a GX/4Runner due to the small amount of space and welding needed to connect them to the cats/O2 sensors. I'm pretty sure they aren't bolt on.

Just want to give everyone an update about this issue. The cause of the noise that I thought was coming from the engine bay was actually a bad wheel bearing. I went on ebay and bought a KOYO bearing with the Timken assembly. Installed it myself in just under 2 hours. I like to take my time to make sure it's done correctly otherwise I could easily do this in about an hour. The Stealership wanted almost $1700 (plus tax) to get this done. Screw them. Got it done for 1/10 the cost.

This thread is from 10 months ago! How long did you drive on that wheel bearing making noise before you figured out what the issue was?

I was driving it from the time I created the thread till this past weekend. However, I wasn't driving it as much as we used to. I honestly thought it was an exhaust leak so I wasn't too concerned. Once we confirmed it was a bad bearing we didn't drive it until I replaced it. I avoided getting it checked because I despise dealerships and I'll explain why when I create a thread about it.

All totaling over $5k. The most ridiculous were $1700 to replace a wheel bearing and $1100 to replace a torn cv boot. On top of that they added on a few other services that were completely unnecessary. I told them that I did not want any work done by them and I'll be picking up my car shortly.
I ended up doing all the work they said my car needed for less than $350 using OEM parts and took less than 5 hours.
