OEM Flasher Relay Mod
I Purchased a TaptoTurn Led Flasher relay in hopes that their website was right and everyone else who posted about it was wrong lol. I received it and proceeded to install it only to hit a brick wall with the truth... 12 pin relay, not the 8 pin TaptoTurn.
Really wanting Led turn signals and not wanting hyper flash, I did the reasearch and decided the “Grind the Shunt” method would be best for me. So I ordered a new OEM 12 pin Flasher Relay. Once I received it I quickly realize it’s going to be very easy to open it up, so I got on with it. After my first attempt, it worked perfectly!!
This is what I did and I am posting to show what I did, If anyone tries this, I am NOT responsible in any way shape or form. Please be safe and use your head
Thanks for reading! I used this small screw driver to gently press the little tabs on both sides of the relay
The relay has a small edge it slides in one way.
This is what I have read is called the Shunt.
This picture shows the amount of material I removed.
This is the OEM part number in case anyone was curious.

I would like to add that I left the OEM relay attached to the back of the fuse box to make sure I did this correctly. I kneeled on the ground, used my left hand to wrestle that connector out. Removing the connector from the OEM relay on the back of the fuse box was very difficult and I don't mind saying, it hurt lol. Hardest part of the whole process was removing that damn connector. Tomorrow I will remove my original and install this modded one correctly. I would assume one could use two sided tape and stick the modded relay to the original. if so inclined.

Hi,sorry for the late reply! Chip is correct. I would like to add that I have resistors on the front, so I’ll be grinding more soon. Also looking into resistors instead of the grinderd shunt. Probably be a week or two for the results, but grinding the shunt has worked perfectly for my application.

Old thread revival. I ground down the shunt like the pic shown but didnt notice a difference at all with the speed of the flashers. Still super fast. Am I missing something?

Grinding down that resistor is a guessing game you may have removed too much or not enough. Looks like that flasher module might use the same chip as the one I modified

Im a bit of a noob when it comes to circuitry. What exact specs for that resistor should I get to wire in to that diagram you showed? Just cut the one connection and solder in the resistor to the other will do the trick?

You are disconnecting pin 10 of the chip from the trace going to it (I use a tiny drill, can use a knife) and soldering a resistor directly to pin 10 other end of the resistor to +12 volts.
Does the back of your flasher look like this?

I gave up on the shunt resistor, you can get it working with a particular set of LED bulbs put in different ones and get hyper flash. If you do it get all the LED bulbs you want installed then put in the resistor and test.

You have a choice, mess around with the shunt or experiment with pin 10 and a resistor. Used ones are about $35 on Ebay so not the end of the world if you screw something up.
