Default 2004 Rear Brake Pad Wear on Rotor Question

Soon I will be replacing the rear rotors and pads on our 2004. While checking tire pressure today,I peeked thru the wheel and saw this(see pic below). Is this normal wear? I have never worked on the brakes on this truck,so,I do not know.

Note the shiny part of the rotor. Is this normal? Should not the pad be hitting the entire outer portion of the rotor? It appears mine are not....

That's a normal rust ridge that's formed. Nearly all cars get them. Depending on how far the rust has penetrated into the rotor, it may not be able to be machined enough to get to clean metal before it's at minimum thickness.

Thanks Blackcat, rear and front rotors were replaced by a shop around the same time in 2012 or 50k miles ago. I just replaced front rotors and pads myself about a week ago. Front rotors looked nothing like that. Weird that there is so much more rust on teh rear rotors given the same mileage.

Looks like the rear pads may not be the right size. The pad contact surface should reach to approximately 2mm of the lip.

It's totally normal. If the pads weren't the right size, there's almost 0 percent chance the wrong size pads would fit in the bracket.
