Hello all,

I'm looking for advise on establishing a baseline for maintenance on a new (to me) 2005 GX470 w/ 160,000 miles. The GX was owned by a single individual and given the condition (which is near perfect) and number of carfax entries was meticulous in scheduled care.

That said, I'm not sure what that really means in terms of actual maintenance performed. It's "certified pre-owned" but other than some basics, I don't have a lot of additional details to go on. For example, the cabin air filter looks like it hasn't been replaced before and the driveshaft seemed surprisingly dry. These are 2 things I would have assumed to be part of scheduled maintenance.

For those who are in older, higher mileage GX's any suggestions on what else to look for? and / or an established baseline for maintenance going forward? I'd like to continue the love that the previous owner clearly started. To that end, I could use a bit of advise from others who have gone before.

I would have to look through the list to see what and when it was done. But I would get my fluid changes on a schedule that suited me. Power steering fluid, brake fluid, coolant flush, tranny fluid and engine oil, differentials and transfer case. I would also look at when the chassis was last greased. Then of course, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, idler and tensioner, drive belt and PCV for this many miles. I would take calipers off and inspect brake pads and rotors. Clean throttle body and MAF sensor. Replace cabin filter and air filter. Once I got all this on my schedule, I would be a lot more comfortable.

Could be a lot. My 2006 at 110k needed radiator, inner cv boots, wheel bearing, t belt (might have already been done, hopefully) and 1k worth of shocks. I only paid 14k and it's a sport so I took the plunge. So far I'm into it for about 3k If you can afford it find one with less miles.

I certainly would have preferred one with less miles, but the condition and price were too good to pass on. Part of my interest in getting an early baseline is to ensure "too good to pass on" aren't famous last words.
