Techstream

I've only had mine for a couple of days, and, considering that it has been about 0-10 degrees outside and that we've had lots of snow, I haven't been inclined to spend much time going out to and sitting in the cold garage to fully explore what you can and cannot do, but I don't believe that there is ability to set the navigation system to play DVDs or do much else while the vehicle is in motion. Basically, it seems to allow you to change the same custom settings that otherwise had to be changed by the dealer, such as the sensitivity of the auto headlights. In the original post for this thread, there is a list of categories of potential changes that are available, but, if you click on many of them, there are no changes available within the category. For example, one of the categories is "seat", but, if you click on "seat", you see that there are no changeable settings for the seat.

The 64 bit version works just fine, just follow the installation tutorial. Stop telling people 32-bit only!
Instructions to install techstream on Windows 7/8 64-bit (Pretty easy, if you have a problem with this procedure you shouldn't be doing your own car-work in the first place!):
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/genera...-8-64-bit.html
My mod's were:
1) Turn off DRL's
2) Turn off steering wheel retract/extend
3) Make all doors lock/unlock with one remote press
Going to program a spare key tomorrow.

Just an FYI.
Per a thread on the ES model forum, there is an Android app available (Carista) that will essentially do what TechStream does. It allows for reading codes, clearing codes, making changes in customized settings, etc. According to the app developer, the current version will work with Generation 2 GX vehicles, but he is working on a version that will be compatible with our Generation 1 GX vehicles. The app costs $10, and using it requires an OBD Bluetooth interface, which can be purchased on Amazon for about $10. If/when the version that is compatible with the Generation 1 GX becomes available, it should be an attractive alternative to using TechStream. The total cost of the app and interface is only $20. It doesn't require installing software and drivers on a laptop, and it doesn't require hauling the laptop out to the vehicle.
