Hello all. Sorry for the lack of experience on this, but if I have that 7 plug connector under my GX, I do not need to purchase the wiring harness correct?

I am looking to add a tow hitch to my 2008 GX 470 and the website suggested wiring and other items. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance.

I can only confirm that on my 2004, which had the 7 pin socket pre-installed, I did not need to add any wiring, relays or harness to make the socket functional. I am not using a brake controller.

Most of the site's I've seen want you to relocate the 7 pin socket and to accomplish this you would need an extension kit. Instead, I just flip my socket upside down and use a connector with a 6" lead.

@zolt - thanks for the quick reply and fair enough. I cehcked under the car this afternoon and the socket and wiring are present. I will flip the socket as well which should work. Looks like there is a plastic piece on the driver's side that has to be removed to expose the holes for the hitch but it looks like a straight forward install.

TRUE: I simply purchased a "Reese 81378 Class II Step Bumper Receiver Hitch" and drilled holes to match those on the GX, also you will need to find the correct bolts, about $5 from Toyota. When finished you will have a hitch capable of attaching many accessories and light towing (I would say less than 1500 lbs to be safe but I have towed more with no problem) for under $40. I will take some pics later and post.
