Thanks Lexus - for GX Safety Features!
Just driving back from Salt Lake City, nice brunch with our going-to-college daughter, sun is out, relaxed......suddenly the view thru the windshield is filled with a deer......no time to think, actions are totally reflex.....stand on the brakes & emergency lane change to the left while the deer makes one last leap for life to the right.....and we missed! I remember feeling that the combination of braking and violent steering would cause the car to roll, should've tried to go over the deer instead....
For my GX it was no big deal - scrubbed off speed in an unbelievably short distance and made the lane change more like I was pulling in to my driveway - remarkable!
A closer examination shows a scuff on the paint on the right front bumper where the deer's hind foot brushed
Thanks, Lexus, for the anti lock brakes & stability control - I am sure those features are what made the difference

Man I'm glad to hear you and your family is okay! I feel a bit safer than the masses when I've got my family in the car. I think you should have stopped though and punched Bambi in the nose! Ha ha ha!

Nice work, Bob! You're safe and sound - just the way it should be.
A bunch of years ago, my wife to be and I whacked a deer in her Integra at about 40-50mph. It happened to quickly that we didn't have time to react. For some lucky reason it didn't come through the windshield. It ran into the driver side front quarter panel and pushed our car over a whole lane. We screeched to a halt and looked back. No sign of the deer. I told my wife to be who was driving that the deer probably jumped up and ran away to make her feel better, so she doubled back only to find it dead on the side of the road. Oops on my part.

Here is my encounter. You can actually see where the head had hit the left fender, leaving two marks from the antlers. I was upset with Santa for the next couple of days. Glad you are ok.

Never had an impact when we had our GX, but I was always surprised by how well it braked and how quickly it could avoid obstacles that cars I've driven would have been lucky to avoid. I like my 4Runner, but I hope to pick up another GX when I finish my BS. They're just the perfect balance of power, size, luxury, capability, safety and practicality.
