Very rare occasion, but yesterday I opened the sunroof on my '05 GX (purchased new and now has 153K on it) and noticed the front of the sunroof frame is severely rusted - AGAIN. This was replaced by Lexus at no charge shortly after the original warranty ran out, but they obviously didn't improve the replacement product, as this is rusting exactly the same as the original one.
Kudos to Lexus for fixing the sunroof out of warranty, but shame on Lexus for realizing there is a problem, but not improving the fix. I had the same problem with the wheels. The finish on the original wheels was peeling and they were all replaced under warranty (all except the spare - I should have checked that one back then). The new wheels developed the same problem, but of course are now out of warranty.
Not looking for any solution or any sympathy, just venting. (Unless someone has an idea what it costs for a new sunroof? I'm not taking it back to Lexus at this point.) As I wrote, shame on Lexus for not actually fixing the problems with the new parts.
BTW, my GX is always garaged, except when on a road trip or during the day at the office. Also, my wife's 2000 GS300 (187K miles) has no rust on the sunroof and the original finish on the wheels is still pristine. I don't know where they went wrong with the GX.

Got a Rusty Moonroof frame on my (2008 assembled) 2009 GX
Dear all,
I have an 05 GX, the other day when I opened the sunroof I noticed some bad rust on the metal trim around the glass of the sunroof where the rubber seal goes. I took it to the dealership they were surprised and they took some pics of it and they tell me that they have to talk to lexus. Then after couple weeks I was told that this is not part of the body and it is not covered.
Anyway does anyone notice something like this, also please take a look around that area and let me know.

2008 gx470 sunroof frame rust
Just bought an 08 and didn't notice the sunroof until after. It's badly rusted at the front of the frame. Has there yet been a recall or a fix other then buying a whole new sunroof frame, only to have it rust again?

Well Crap! Reading this thread made me stop and go look. I have an 08 and I have a single area of rust on the front of the frame about 2" long. Just enough to be irritating!

No sunroof rust on my 2006, but post #21 seems to be what my white blizz pearl is experiencing. Not big patches of paint coming off, but the upper door edges, just below window bottoms, are peeling, looks just like paint separating from the primer.
