I am looking at purcharsing a GX. Is there any real difference in the 03 and the 04 models? They look the same to me....but I can save a few $$$ if I go with the 03.

The late 2004 models have the Tire Pressure Warning System and a different tow hitch design that allowed for heaver towing capacity. They also changed the “official” weight of the vehicle so that it qualified for tax deductions when used for business. They also added the backup camera for the NAV system. I believe that is about it.

That about sums it up, although I would add that the '03 is also rated at the same 6,500 lb tow capacity as later models when equipeed with the "optional tow hitch receiver". There are threads on here though about how Lexus is reluctant to sell them to '03 owners though for reasons that get rather complicated dealing with the EPA.

Related to that, the little bumper cut out area is different from the '03 compared to '04+. As far as I know it's the only way to tell them apart visually from the outside until the '08s came out with a few extra pieces of chrome.
