question on muffler deposits.....

question on muffler deposits.....
Drove 1500 miles roundtrip to Florida - average speed going down according to trip computer was 72mph - but was doing 80mph on mostly low volume I-95 (drove down on a Sunday).
Later when washing the car noticed fair amount of black soot in the muffler. Car has 4k miles on it....not sure if this common or the engine is running lean...I am using premium gas only - ..again mostly cruised at 75-80 mph - -no towing/ no heavy loads.......
By the way, GX is great on the highway - kept the setting to Sport mode 1, per manual (but not the full sport mode). Not much sway despite high speed and windy on some occasions...perhaps combo of KDSS and Sport 1 kept it in check....great comfortable cruiser - no complaints but slight hp increase for high speed passing would be welcome.....
