For engine air filter, which make/model is giving correct snug fit?
I have been through some Wix, ACdelco, others, that seem a bit too small to fit and seal 100% in the clamshell.
I trust WIX filters because of the high quality control they adhere. Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your air box? I mean this is just dimensions and all the makers have the same measurements? Also you have to completely separate the top portion of the air box when installing a new one or else the rubber seals are inevitably going to get pinched. It seems you need to evaluate if the air box is deformed or error in installation.

No issue opening the clamshell. After putting filter in the lower, it moves around, and to me, moves around a lot, at least 1/8". I know the top half will clamp it, but the play seems like the gasket might barely be touching the lip of the shell.
Assuming you mean the engine air filter and not the cabin filter - there's no side-to-side play.
And when you clamp the top down, you can feel the resistance from the little rubber ridge that runs around the seal. So - very good fit.
The Chinese have really entered the cabin air filter market - there's several different versions being sold by many vendors
(aka: 2-3 factories producing them, being resold by lots of firms with 5-6 letter all-CAPITAL names on Amazon.)

After seeing the care taken to make face masks in China, I think I'd trust my cabin air filtration needs to just about anyone else, lol.
In other news: wash new clothes before wearing them.
I bought cabin air filters just the other day from Partsouq, and found that along with China, there were options from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, and a few others that I can't remember at the moment. On THAT site, of about 7 options, only one was made in China, and it was cheapest.
Obviously no guarantees that some of those are any better than China, but when you have an opportunity to support China or not...
I was just doing the 150k mile service, and noticed the Toyota air filter isn’t completely snug either. It has a tiny side to side play ~1/8”. Negligible when the clam shell clamps down.
