Default Blower fan quit

Went to leave for work this morning, and quickly noticed the blower fan wasn't working, and the windshield was starting to fog up. Tried messing with the fan speed controls, and it wasn't blowing in any speed setting. Tried shutting the truck off and restarting, same thing. Turned back home, pulled it in the garage, checked fuses quickly, couldn't find anything blown (I'll go out and do a more thorough check when I get a minute). I'm working from home today as a result, so not a day off, lol.

I'm thinking my blower fan has died. It's cold today, -26C, it picked a fine day to die.

If it was the resistor, it should still work on high, would it not? Just wondering if there's anything else I should check before ordering a new fan to be here for early next week? I can change "modes" and hear the vent doors moving in the dash, the only issue seems to be the fan doesn't work at all. I've yet to test that the rear AC works, does that system have a dedicated fan separate from the main HVAC fan?

Went outside to do a bit more testing, and low and behold, the fan is working again. I'm guessing it's the actual blower motor that's on the way out.

Yeah, if it's the resistor they typically run only at one speed.

You probably have a moose caught in the blades.

You probably know.....but just in case, if the system is set on AUTO, the fan won’t start blowing until a certain engine temp, not until it can make some warm air.

Good point, I usually kick it off auto so it's in the defrost/foot mode though. I ordered a new blower fan yesterday, hopefully it shows up early next week. We are looking at some overnight lows of -31C next week....gross.

Just give your blower motor a good kick to work for now till the new one shows up.

Back in the old systems you do have a resistor.
Now they mostly have a control assembly, amplifier and a blower controller which the GX have.
When blower goes out, its either a fuse/relay or the actual blower.

I've left it parked in the heated garage since it failed, and it has worked ever since. Problem is it's normally parked outside, and that's when things like on-the-way-out blower fans are going to not work in the morning. I need to be able to count on it, new blower fan was the only answer.

Stupid question; Will you be using the "Sticky," or will you be making one yourself?

Is there a "sticky" on this topic? I don't think it's a real tricky job to R&R the blower motor, should be 3 screws, the electrical harness, and possibly some plastic/glovebox removal to gain access. Hopefully goes smoothly.

When I left work yesterday, the blower fan wasn't working again. Truck was parked in an open air parkade, block heater plugged in, temp was about -18C for a high. I had some stops to make on my way home, so couldn't beeline straight home, and it sucked. I had to really control my breathing to not fog up the interior, and by the time I got home about an hour alter, my feet were blocks of ice (dress socks and shoes are crap for warmth, lol). Parked it in the garage when I got home, an hour later the fan was working again. I brought some wool socks to change into before leaving work today. The new blower fan can't get here soon enough! I ordered the part on Friday, still no shipping notice from Partsouq, I was hoping to install it Thursday after work, but that's tomorrow...not likely going to work out for me.

Edit: found the sticky! I need this fix to be reliable, I'll be replacing the blower fan with new OEM.

You should check it's not full of leaves or something first, might not be anything major. Mine randomly quit altogether when cold, otherwise no signs or noises of trouble ahead.

I emailed Partsouq yesterday to see what the holdup is, apparently their supplier is observing 3 days of mourning related to the commercial jet that was shot down in Iran...had not considered that when I placed the order. Should ship today, I'm not sure if they'll deliver over the weekend or if I'm stuck waiting till Monday at this point.

-31C this morning here, feels like -38...fan didn't work on the way home yesterday, so it's definitely not going to work today.

Blower fan showed up today, my first impression was it was too small, it's like 1/2 the size of other ones I've seen! It was the right one though.

Install couldn't have been easier, one bolt (8mm) and some friction clips holding on the lower dash plastic, unplug the wiring on the backside and move it out of the way, then 3 bolts (8mm), and a wiring harness and the blower motor is out of the truck. Took 15min total.

The weather has warmed as of today, so since it was only giving me grief when it was parked outside and it was cold, it might be a while before I can confidently say I've got it beat. Back out to the driveway for the Lexus, fingers crossed.
