Default Gx470 Reliability

I found a 2004 Lexus Gx470 single owner car with 275k miles. I am wondering how reliable are these cars really and am i just looking for trouble by considering a car with such hi milage? The car would mostly just be used in bad weather and to move any large items.

GXs are like any car. If you keep up with maintenance and preventative maintenance they should keep going.

A 2004 is a 15 year old car. It will be having age-related problems, like needing a new radiator, new rear air suspension, etc.

Not keeping up with the maintenance makes all of that worse - causing components to fail even earlier.

Mine's been very reliable with basic maintenance done. I have an 03 with about 155k miles. I say check it out and if everything looks good and drives well, go for it!

Scschlag,
If you're looking for a heavy 4x4 vehicle, you might want to look at the same circa 4Runners. You can get one with a V6 (same as Tacoma, FJ Cruiser) or a V8 (same as GX470). When it comes to transporting bulky items, 4Runner's roll-down rear window can't be beat. I could not get a twin-size mattress or a 32" entry door to fit in my GX, so had to use my 06 CRV to transport it. 1 point for CRV, embarrassment for GX. When it comes to towing though, you won't know the difference between the V8 4Runner and the GX. Just saying, if you're looking for interior space and ability to transport a long item from a hardware store, 4Runner wins any day. Your next best bet it a Sequoia with the same roll-down rear window option...

GX will beat the 4runner when towing because of the factory rear air suspension. That allows you to add weight to the rear and it won't squat.
