Recently purchased a 2007 GX470 and it has the dreaded cracking in the dash panel. Since it’s out of date for recall and Lexus will not budge...any advice on a cost effective way to fix. Also, appears the DVD reader may be bad. Is there a product out there to replace the navigation system and still work the climate controls and other functions from it? Also, my rear bags were recently replaced. Is there a front shock/lift of about an inch to level the vehicle out so to speak? Thanks!!!

For the dash - you can cover it up with a dash-mat, live with it, or spend the $$$$ to replace it yourself. Something to check though is ask the previous owner's dealer if the VIN was on their replacement list. It's taken Lexus quite a while to produce replacement dashboards so there's a small chance it's still on the list and might be eligible.
For the DVD unit - did you run the diagnostics? (Search here for the instructions). If the cover was left open, it might be just full of dust.
If you want to replace the entire touch-screen unit, some people have been able to use Chinese Android-tablet-based units. Do a search.
The rear height, with airbags, should be around 21.75" measured from the center of the wheel hub to the fender lip with the height control in N (fronts are 20"). The design of the GX does have the rear visually higher than the fronts.

Thanks so very much for the information Chip! I have not done the diagnostics on the reader yet. Have you seen the dash cover option and does it look fairly decent in your opinion. The dash is too pricey for sure. Thanks again!
I have the message “a program cannot be read contact a dealer.” Anyone know if this means I just need an updated disk or the reader is bad? Thanks!

Prior experience with mats (not on the GX) ... you want them to get warm so they'll soften and better conform to the curves of the dash. Right out of the box there'll be major wrinkles in it. So far as overall looks - too subjective to give an opinion as to what brand to buy, but I think it'll look better than the spiderweb of cracks in the dash.Originally Posted by Gx470ga

I was going to this to my RX but ended up just buying a dash mat...

This thread just brought back a very bad experience I had with Lexus of Englewood N.J. brought my GX in the end of may 2017 for a side airbag recall and for the dash to be replaced as there were cracks in it and was still covered under the warranty enhancement. The rep said no problem and you'll get a call from us in four of five months when it comes in. Needless to say that call never came and when I contacted them the rep he denied any knowledge of the conversation and corporate was zero help, They basically contacted the dealer and it was just my word against theirs. My bad for being too trusting and for not getting something in writing. I'm still fuming over this incident. That coverlay looks pretty interesting though

My dash is cracked and the dealership is not helpful in answering if this car was on the list. There are service records up to a few months ago and it was meticulously maintained. My question is this - these new dashboards being installed - did they correct the flaw in materials? I have no issue buying the dash from a dealership and installing it myself if the issue was resolved. Otherwise, I can save 500$ and purchase a salvaged dash if the new ones are going to crack anyway. Not too happy with Lexus. Melting/cracking/offgassing dashboards have been a problem on this vehicle since day one. The warranty period should extend indefinitely to anyone with this issue. Spare me the "10 year old vehicle what do you expect" argument.
I got no where when I contacted the dealer. They searched and didn’t see my vin on the list for the dash replacement. Recently, I had a lot of preventative maintenance done (new plugs, battery and cables, transmission fluid, differential fluid, transfer case, etc),,,,a day after driving..my check engine light and VSC Lights came on and have remained on. Code P1442 is what is coming up. Starting to wonder if this car was a bad purchase money pit. Frustrating as it drives great and I love the look/feel of it.

Your question is totally valid if you're going to keep it for 10+ years. Most (nearly everyone) will have traded it before that time, though. Originally Posted by SOTF

If you buy a salvage dash, it's manufacture date was 8+ years ago and so it will have been made with the original materials. I would expect it to start cracking soon.
Personally, I'm very happy that Lexus extended the warranty on the dash. Any other car maker would have told owners of 10 year old vehicles to go jump.
