My GX is an 07 with 157k miles, and has been flawless. Several weeks ago I started to notice a strange pulsing sensation when braking. The pulsation was very faint but noticeable during braking, with nothing felt through the pedal or steering wheel. I suspected seized calipers. A quick search revealed it’s a common occurrence on these trucks. I thought to myself, “Hmm not this GX, it’s braking fine”. Went to pull all calipers to tidy them up and replace pads and rotors while I’m at it. I sent the calipers to a good friend for rebuild, and was shocked to see how badly the pistons have corroded/seized. Since brand new this GX has been serviced by Lexus and never missed it’s Bi annual brake flushes. It’s amazing how the truck still managed to brake so well. Looking at the old rotors, they have even wearing and the brake pads were the same. Nothing looked out of place. When he peeled back the rubber seals- OMG corrosion! We tried to move the pistons- nope. Each of the front calipers had one or two seized pistons with the remaining pistons barely moving. Oh well, I purchased the rebuild kits for nothing. These calipers are done for. Picked up some reman calipers was the most cost effective step for me. The rears were fine, and rebuilt with OEM seals. Calipers were sand blasted, washed, prepped, primed, and coated. Thanks a bunch to my good friend.
So if you're still on original calipers, please have them inspected.
