From the looks of it......it does not appear that you would be able to change the filter without removing the skid plate.
Well ****. Our GX gets driven offroad about 0% of the time, but I'd buy an aftermarket skid plate if it allowed for the oil filter to be changed with it in place.

Get someone to measure it out and cut a hole for you.
If you're paranoid about catching every little drop of oil, a little creativity might be required. I removed the idiotic drain plate, that thing weighs at least 10 pounds and does nothing except get in the way. Then just put a pan underneath wherever the oil starts dripping. You might be left with a couple of drops worth of oil on the skid plate, but if you care about that, you probably have bigger issues.

That's interesting, I'll have to take a closer look, didn't think there was room to pull that off with the skid in place!
My E55 "mark's it's territory", so I don't get real hung up on some drips hitting the ground, lol.
