Default New Member! Need HELP!

Hello, thank you for such a great Club! I am a PROUD owner of a recently purchased 03 GX470. After letting my girlfriend drive it for the 1st time, I got in it and the shifter was very loose! Didnt have the "feeling" of shifting in or out of gears. In the park and D positions, it just kind of flops around, has no tension, the lights on the indicator work and are accurate. Coincidence? Wore out? Something broke? I dont know.

Any and all suggestions would help with the shifter. Also ANY tips or suggestions about ANYTHING would be appreciated!

Thank you, very excited to become a member and learn from the pros!

Assuming you're talking about the lever on the console (and not the transmission) - it's possible that it's worn out or is broken. Here's the diagram with the parts:

I don't believe it is coded to the car, so you should be able to replace it yourself.

Thank you Chip! Yes the gear selector lever, P.R.N D, you know. Thanks for the diagram! Any idea if the counsel has to come out? I was looking at used units, anywhere from 130 bucks to a couple hundred. I just dont know how labor intensive it is. Now that I looked at it, $400 for the part may be worth it, as long as the dealer doesnt tell me its hours and hours of labor!

Check spring 33564B in that diagram. See if it seems really loose. It's a cheap "Try and see" kind of thing.

I had the same issue with mine. I found a metal rod had come out of the shifter. It was some type of detent or retaining piece. I'm a tech for a living and I looked and looked and looked and could never figure out where it went in the shifter, so I bought a used one on eBay. Installation is super easy and any 03-09 shifter will work. I have an 03 and my shifter is out of an 08.

BlackCat81, Super easy to install? The dealer is telling me $1000 p&l. Any tips or what needs to be done to install, I would really really appreciate it!

Remove the rear of the console, cup holder, and shifter cover, remove the plugs from the switches you go. Remove the linkage cable and the 4 bolts hold in the shifter (make sure you unscrew and remove the handles). Put in the new one and reassemble.
