Default Rear Suspension Hops

Anyone notice that the rear suspension seems to hop arround harder turns when trying to take them fast? It's kind of disturbing. The suspension setting will help just a bit, but not enough.

I noticed that ours seemed a bit twitchy when we first picked it up. I mentioned it to the sales guy when he did his follow-up call and he told me to check the tire pressures. Sure enough, they were all over inflated (48psi vs 32psi). Apparently they overinflate the tires for transportation to make them a little more rigid and hence easier to secure on the trains and trucks. I lowered the pressures and it made a really big improvement. THis may not be the reason you are experiencing your hops, but it is worth checking.

However, our GX is still twitchy compared to our '00 Land Cruiser, but not enough for me to worry about. It is probably due to the slightly shorter wheelbase and lighter vehicle weight. May be the rumored kinetic suspension upgrade in '04's (see https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=82146 ) is aimed at sorting this out.

Even the dealers like to put too much air pressure in the tires during service. But I don't think that's it.

I would estimate the same feeling if the shocks were too soft, or not working properly. The travel of the wheel and axle itself are what's hopping. (for me).

Kinetic suspension won't help us too much :-)

Those with the hop are you driving around in 4hi with the VSC on cause if you have it off the traction is split 50/50 front to rear and the Torsen Center DIff is locked which will bind and hop around turns if the wheels can't slip

Not that kind of hop. I do know what you are talking about. I'm talking about a left handed long turn hard and fast. You can feel the right outer wheel hop along the turn,

This generally comes from cars with shocks that are shot. I don't think there is a problem with my rear shocks, but a bouncy non performing shock is the same motion I experience around a turn if I push it.

I just think maybe the rear is too soft. I also notice on jarring road dips, the bottoming effect, or at least a resinating affect.

My father had a car where the rear wheels hopped going around turns, they replaced the rear end for him several times, never really went away so he sold the car
