Problems with Paint
Hey, have any of you guys noticed that the paint on the bottom half of the GX is not seeming to hold up very well? I got my GX on Feb. 1st and already have 2 places where it looks like something lightly tapped it and the paint came off. One spot it looks like the clearcoat has peeled from the spot on down. Believe me this SUV is not parked by other vehicles, I am a fanatic about that, it is mainly used on the road and them parked by itself until we leave. Just wondering, sure makes me sick. I thought the plastic bottom part would be even better than the paint on metal. Their are no dings, just these spots that are appearing. Thanks for any info.
Thanks for your reply, I would appreciate hearing what they have to say to you. We are getting close to our 5,000 mile oil change, etc., so I will be anxious to hear on my end, too. Is yours on the bottom half where it is the plastic, also? Just curious...again thanks. Would appreciate any other comments from you guys.
So are none of the rest of you having any problems with you paint on your GX. Maybe this is just a flukey thing on mine. But where the clear coat has peeled it is just plain old blah tan paint. I'm really upset. Please let me know if any others of you have had this problem. I hope Lexus stands behind their paint jobs. Otherwise, the GX is perfect!
Mine is on the lower part of the front bumper, left of the license plate. The dealer is already scheduled to fix a spot that was scuffed on the other side of the license plate, so I can't imagine to much discussion when I show him the newest spot.
I don't see how they can fix the clear coat peeling. My spots are between the second door and rear on the driver's side about half way down. One spot is really bad, the paint underneath where it is peeling is just drab tan. It looks like you could just stand there and keep peeling it away! Makes me sick. I wonder if it is just the plastic part that is having this problem. Looks like it would stand up better than paint on the metal part of the car. Hopefully, it can be repaired! Thanks for your info.

Have about 5,500 miles on my GX and it drives like a dream. My one and only complaint is the paint job on mine does not seem up to par. It seems to chip very easily. We even had a spot where the clear coat started peeling off where a chip was. We took it in for the 5,000 mile check and they repaired the spot where the clear coat was peeling, but another spot where it was just nicked we had to pay for ($144.00). The spots seem the worst on the lower bottom half of the GX where the plastic guard it...they don't prime it (according to the dealer) the paint nicks very easily and when it does you see the black rubber that is underneath...not pretty on Sand Dollar Pearl. Anyway, all is fixed right now, guess I need to get some touch-up paint for future nicks. They will however stand behind the clearcoat as it is part of their warranty. They told us this is normal with regular use to get the nicks, but I have owned many cars and this has not been an issue. The shop guy told us this is normal...wrong thing to say to my husband, he told him then he should have bought a Ford, never had that problem with them! I do love my GX, but really am disappointed in the paint not holding up better. Did get all 3 recalls in the mail after returning home...kind of surprised the Lexus dealership didn't just fix them while they had the vehicle. They kept it about 4 days and gave us a loaner, which I thought was nice. Anyone else experiencing the paint nicking easily? Just wondering...
The front end on my 99 RX300 chipped alot. I was a little worried when we traded it in on the GX. I have 1 rock chip so far, and the forementioned problems on the front bumper with the scuff and the clear coat peeling. Not sure why, but I have fewer paint issues with american cars.
They will stand behind the clearcoat peeling. They did do an excellant job of repairing it, you can't even tell, so you may want to take it in for them to see it. They told me they would start some kind of file on my situation if anything further were to develop. I also have some small rock chips on the front of the hood, guess a rock deflector would look too cheesy! Good luck with yours.
