I read through the sticky, but couldn't get a definite answer to these questions...

I have a new-to-me 2007 GX470 with 150k miles. Clunk sound doesn't always happen and is not that bad. It usually happens when I stop quickly, not on a gradual stop. 150k service was done 2k miles ago, so it might have been greased.

Will this cause any issues with the vehicle if drive shaft is not replaced? Is it just annoying?
Is there any chance that Lexus will fix on a vehicle with 150k miles?

I live about 3 hours away from dealer who has 15 pages of records on this vehicle and an hour from nearest Lexus dealer.

No need to replace the driveshaft. You just need to grease the U-joints. I've had that problem ever since we bought our GX, and the first time I greased the U-joints it completely disappeared. It's actually quite normal for 4x4 vehicles. Even Jeeps need their U-joints greased every 5k miles.

 

Odd response but I had a nagging clunk for a while and finally figured out it was that the jack (for changing the tires)
in the rear compartment had slightly loosened from where you wedge it under the metal plate. When I was braking hard and or accelerating fast it would wobble and hit the front and back of the compartment.

 

King is spot on here... even my 4runner did this...got to grease the propeller shaft

 

Unless you want to grease it and create messy stuffs. I just get used to with the clunk. I expect the clunk every times I stop and release the brake slightly, so it won't annoy me anymore.

 

You should also expect your u joints to fail prematurely. That will be an annoyance. There are grease zerks there for a reason. They should be greased at least every oil change.
