height control reservoir assembly

well after two month of reading about height control issues, i decided to take it in to the stealership. Just didnt want to start replacing stuff myself only to find out I was chasing the problem. They spent the time and are confident that air bags and height sensors were not the culprit, that it was the reservoir assembly. Their part was 150 more that sewell wanted and the labor will be $500...putting it up to about $1300. If they are right I will be happy, the truck is an 04 with 145,000 on it. First dollar i have spent on something other than normal maintanence. keeping my fingers crossed.

Stealership is right!

$500 in labor for removing 3 tubes / few o-rings, 2 bolts and unplugging 2 harness connectors...that will take less than an hour to remove & replace. What a rip off. I hope it fixes your problem.

When you go to pick it up and if you don't mind, ask them how they determined it was a bad reservoir. It might help others w/ this same problem. I'd be curious to hear what they say. I don't see much troubleshooting in the shop manual other than to check the height control tubes for air leaks with soapy water.

Codes C1744 low pressure tank solenoid failure, C1761 suspension control ECU failure., replace height control tank. Rides like new. My wallet is a little sore.

I guess for the average Joe they wouldn't be able to pull that code without a techstream. Glad you got your ride back and it fixed your problem.

Just a heads up for all the DIY-ers...They did say that most of the time, the ride height sensors are the culprit, rarely do they find problems with the air bags. I had no blinking lights on the ride height indictor on the dash. I should have just paid them for the diagnosis and gotten the part myself and done it...but it has been brutally cold here and even with a heater in the garage it would have been painful spending time under the truck. I take solice in the fact that most of the time I have been able to avoid the dealer. Although next time I will try my local toyota dealer instead.
